Rich Aurilia was a Good Giant. A favorite of mine, in fact, going way back to his first cup-of-coffee in 1995, when he hit almost .500 (never mind that it was only 19 at bats!), and I’m really glad he put together a solid 2008. I would’ve hated for the disappointment of 2007 to be my last memory of him. And for just that reason, I’m glad he’s not coming back – he can end his Giants career on a relatively good note.

pour an extra large one for Richie tonight

"I didn't know (after seeing a spectacular over-the-shoulder catch) whether to shit or go blind." - Former Giants Outfielder Harvey Kuenn on Willie Mays
Bummer. i like that guy.
Basically, my trade/no-trade/who-are-we-getting-and-losing perspective boils down to this:
i get attached to players (some of them — not Alex Sanchez!). i don’t know anything about the other players (Rente-who? Sabathia? Isn’t he a Cleelander? etc. It’s not quite that bad but you get the idea.)
When I think of my perfect Giants roster, I want things to be the way they were.
Still-proud, adoptive mama of Notgardo Alfonzo, who's back from the 50-game purgatory. He promises never to do it again. I couldn't get him to promise to hit, though. We're working on that with bribes of M&Ms, kind of like potty training.

Deivi wasn’t terrible that one year. And he had the whitest teeth ever. Sure, he had the range of a grapefruit, but I remember him hitting OK for us in ’04.

Remember when he hit for the cycle, and then Alou benched him the next game?
..so allow me to present Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain as two sweet, sweet bottles of warming hooch.
I don’t remember that but it’s funny if it’s true. Such an Alou thing to do.

Fare thee well, Richie. I hope there’s a position for you in the Giants organization (coaching, community outreach) in the near future.
My plans for 2009: getting married and attending Tim Lincecum Bobblehead Day.
Seconded!
My last direct link the the ’93 Giants. ( He was gotten in teh trade for Burkett. At the time was was not pleased.) He was a very good Giant in both his tours here.

gotta put pablo, eugenio and bengie in there now
The bases were drunk, and I painted the black with my best yakker. But blue squeezed me, and I went full. I came back with my heater, but the stick flares one the other way and the chalk flies for two bases. Three earnies! Next thing I know, skipper hooks me and I'm sipping suds with the clubby.
It would be funnier if Molina was the one running behind the car trying to catch up.

FAKE BUNT!!
I had to get one last “fake bunt” in there since I won’t be able to type that in next season’s game threads.

Rich Aurilia was brought back here in the first place for his veteran influence on the kids. You can be sure at least one of them learned that technique and will show it off in games next season for you to complain about.
Brian Sabean's new dad: Firm believer in corporal punishment
Unfortunately, I fear the kid who picked up that technique was Omar Vizquel.

and with that, the last of the Candlestick-era Giants is gone.
So long, Rich. See you on the Wall of Fame.

Farewell, Richie.
Great Giant. Sad to see him go, but I know it’s probably for the best. I don’t really see what the Renteria signing had to do with it, though.
Check out The Examined Life. Or don't. Whatever.

Maybe Sabean has wised up and realize giving Bolder Skull 2 vets that can play 2nd base or the left side mean 2 kids rotting?

Not just fake bunts
Let’s not forget, he was probabl;y only second to Nomar at fidgeting between pitches.

Bye Richie. You were a great Giant. Me thinks if Pablo hadn’t emerged and Ishi wasn’t out of options going into this year that they might bring you back as a reserve/platoon option at 1B/3B.
