Rich Aurilia was a Good Giant. A favorite of mine, in fact, going way back to his first cup-of-coffee in 1995, when he hit almost .500 (never mind that it was only 19 at bats!), and I’m really glad he put together a solid 2008. I would’ve hated for the disappointment of 2007 to be my last memory of him. And for just that reason, I’m glad he’s not coming back – he can end his Giants career on a relatively good note.

Bummer. i like that guy.

Basically, my trade/no-trade/who-are-we-getting-and-losing perspective boils down to this:

i get attached to players (some of them — not Alex Sanchez!). i don’t know anything about the other players (Rente-who? Sabathia? Isn’t he a Cleelander? etc. It’s not quite that bad but you get the idea.)

When I think of my perfect Giants roster, I want things to be the way they were.

Still-proud, adoptive mama of Notgardo Alfonzo, who's back from the 50-game purgatory. He promises never to do it again. I couldn't get him to promise to hit, though. We're working on that with bribes of M&Ms, kind of like potty training.

Deivi wasn’t terrible that one year. And he had the whitest teeth ever. Sure, he had the range of a grapefruit, but I remember him hitting OK for us in ’04.

Remember when he hit for the cycle, and then Alou benched him the next game?

..so allow me to present Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain as two sweet, sweet bottles of warming hooch.

gotta put pablo, eugenio and bengie in there now

The bases were drunk, and I painted the black with my best yakker. But blue squeezed me, and I went full. I came back with my heater, but the stick flares one the other way and the chalk flies for two bases. Three earnies! Next thing I know, skipper hooks me and I'm sipping suds with the clubby.

FAKE BUNT!!

I had to get one last “fake bunt” in there since I won’t be able to type that in next season’s game threads.

by Lars The Wanderer on Dec 5, 2008 12:03 PM PST reply actions

Rich Aurilia was brought back here in the first place for his veteran influence on the kids. You can be sure at least one of them learned that technique and will show it off in games next season for you to complain about.

Great Giant. Sad to see him go, but I know it’s probably for the best. I don’t really see what the Renteria signing had to do with it, though.
