No more big signings?
I'll post this here, since few people scroll down and there's a not insignificant chance that I've missed something important that will make me look like an idiot for posting this.
In short, the qouta for Type A/B free agent signings this team was 4, and Johnson is the Giants' fourth type A/B signee. In other words, discussion of Manny, Dunn, Burrell, etc. aren't just repetitive and tiresome, but moot. The link is to a BBTF thread where the discussion came up, scroll to the bottom to read the relevant portion of the CBA. I'm hoping that someone else has some insight as to whether or not this is correct.

Here's the excerpt of the CBA
(a) Clubs shall be limited in the number of Type A and B Players,
as defined below, they may subsequently sign to contracts. The
number of signings permitted shall be related to the number of Players
electing free agency under this Section B. If there are 14 or less
such Players, no Club may sign more than one Type A or B Player.
If there are from 15 to 38 such Players, no Club may sign more than
two Type A or B Players. If there are from 39 to 62 such Players, no
Club may sign more than three Type A or B Players. If there are
more than 62 such Players, the Club quotas shall be increased
accordingly. There shall be no restrictions on the number of
unranked Players that a Club may sign to contracts.
(b) Irrespective of the provisions of subparagraph (a) above, a
Club shall be eligible to sign at least as many Type A and B Players
as it may have lost through Players having become free agents under
this Section at the close of the season just concluded.

Fans are always going to conjecture. We haven’t heard any of those names coming from the Giants. I still think they can sign someone like Wigginton, who was non tendered or Crede, who I don’t think is an A or B.

That Is The Way I See It Too - 64 Total Type As and Bs So No More Then 4 Each
Wigginton by the way is Type B so we can’t sign him. Crede and Aurilia on the other hand are not classified as either Type A or B so we can sign either of them.

Is there a link to a list of the available free agents and what “type” they are?

Didn't see Bonds on that list
After being inactive for a year, is he neither A nor B?

Well, that's kinda interesting...
I’ve read where Bonds might sign for league min, plus incentives. Roberts could be dumped or DFA’d and Bonds pencilled for 80 to 90 starts, plus DH in interleague games. Lewis would get the balance in Left, plus starts when Winn or Rowand are resting.
We’re about the only club that could touch Barry with a ten foot pole, and we have a fan base that would accept him right off. The rest of the league would sit on their hands because it gets the other owners off of the collusion hook for good.
Downside is that Schierholtz and/or Bowker get less time, but Roberts is going to cut into that anyway. Also, Bonds might not perform after another year off, but if not, he can be released and the cost is only Roberts. Also, and not least, would be the trial.
Not sure I’d pull that trigger, but also not sure I wouldn’t.

I really dont see how Bonds in LF would benefit the team. I can only imagine how much slower he is now. I really don’t see the fanbase backing him up anymore. I would have to assume the fanbase consensus is that we are way past Bonds now and developing talent.
I’ll take FLewis over a crumbling Bonds hobbling around in left any day.

My Mistake - Players That Reach Free Agency Because Of Being Non Tendored Are Not Subject To This Quota
B. Free Agency
(1) Eligibility
Following the completion of the term of his Uniform Player’s
Contract, any Player with 6 or more years of Major League service
who has not executed a contract for the next succeeding season shall
be eligible to become a free agent, subject to and in accordance with
the provisions of this Section B.
(2) Procedure
The procedure set forth in this paragraph (2) shall apply to Players
eligible to become free agents pursuant to paragraph (1) above.
Players who otherwise become free agents under this Agreement
shall be eligible to negotiate and contract with any Club without any
restrictions or qualifications and the Clubs signing such free agents
shall do so without regard to the quota provision of this Section B.
The Giants are free to sign Wigginton if they so desire.

I think this is correct, and any additional moves the Giants make will be
by way of trades.

Good
None of the free agent hitters are that appealing to me, but I’ve been hoping for quite some time to see a trade go down (not involving Edwin or Cantu). Sabean may not have the greatest reputation around here, but I wouldn’t put it past him to get creative in the trade market.

Nevermind - Bhaakon and I Are Both Wrong
It was pointed out to me at MLB Trade Rumors that it is the total number of Free Agents incuding non Type A/Bs availabe (rather then the total number of just Type A/B Free Agents available) that is used to determine the limit on how many Type A/Bs any team can sign.
