We're decent, but we should consider......
I've always believed that the Giants are a team that should spend close to 150 million dollars a year, but it seems like they never do. If they do, it has been for washed up guys like the Moises Alou's of the world (no offense Moises, literally... get it get it?).
Here's what I feel about the Giants offseason:
1. I thought it was important that the Giants signed two relievers. They arn't the greatest, but I feel that it will help us immensly. For how good of a season Brain Wilson had last year, I am skeptical if he can come back with the same production. I don't doubt him too much, but if anything does go wrong or he stumbles out of the game, Affeldt can always close. But I think Wilson will be alright.
2. The Randy Johnson signing was great!! What can be better, we have nothing to lose with this signing. What? Only 1 year, and 8 million? It's not like the Giants are asking him to be the number one or two starter. With Lincecum, Cain, Johnson, Zito, Sanchez (or Lowry), we may hav eth best rotation in baseball.
3. As far as the offense, I really feel that the Giants should either:
a) Sign Pat Burrell
b) Trade for a position player. Why not Adrian Gonzalez for Jonathan Sanchez and maybe another minor leaguer. Now I usually dont like the idea of trading away young guys, but this may be worth it. It all of course depends on how Noah Lowry is doing.
If our offense stays the same as it is now, I think the best lineup would be:
1. RF Randy Winn
2. 2B Emmanuel Burriss
3. 3B Pablo Sandoval
4. CF Aaron Rowand
5. C Bengie Molina
6. SS Edgar Renteria
7. LF Fred Lewis
8. 1B Travis Ishikawa
Now I know that this isn't the greatest offensive team, but I think it has the capability of producing enough runs for our starters. Also, in a year or two we have Angel Villalona and Buster Posey coming up.
If the Giants keep the lineup as is, and with their pitching, I predict them to go
91-71 and win the NL West
And I always believe, once you make the playoffs it's all fair game because if you have 2-3 solid starters that's what it's all about.

Yeah I was going to argue that point too.
I believe if Adrian and/or Jake get traded it will be to LAA.

I know! I mean, Jonathan Sanchez isn’t a minor leaguer.

Yes, they would do it
Yes, the Padres would trade Adrian Gonzales for Jonathan Sanchez and a minor leaguer, if that minor leaguer were Madison Bumgarner or perhaps Buster Posey.

That’s the thing. They’re really not in a rush to trade Adrian because he’s cheap (I read somewhere he’s due to make $4.5m next year). On top of that, we’d have to pay an extra premium price because he’s in the division. I’d bet it would take Sanchez + Bumgarner/Posey + Alderson. And no way do I make that trade.

Are you serious?
Sanchez and Bumgarner for Adrian Gonzalez? Let me drive Sabean to the office and give him the pen to sign that trade.

Can we stop fake trading Jonathan Sanchez already?
We don't really have that much pitching depth. We don't really have that much pitching depth. FOR GOD SAKE, VERUCA, DON'T GO FAKE TRADING JONATHAN SANCHEZ. We don't really have that much pitching depth

what do you think about Sanchez for Smoak? Granted we’re putting our hopes on AV but Smoak seems pretty legit and I wouldn’t be too unhappy throwing one of them into the OF.

We’d have to wait until next year to trade for Smoak, since drafted players can’t get traded until after 1 year of their drafting (or maybe coming to terms… I forget).
Also, they’d both probably be bad in the outfield, and I’d rather not have that.

Things I don't understand
I’ve always believed that the Giants are a team that should spend close to 150 million dollars a year, but it seems like they never do. If they do, it has been for washed up guys like the Moises Alou’s of the world (no offense Moises, literally… get it get it?).
The first sentence I have no comment on, but are you trying to say that Alou wasn’t good offensively? He was great offensively for us. His problem was staying healthy.
This:
As far as the offense, I really feel that the Giants should either:
a) Sign Pat Burrell
b) Trade for a position player. Why not Adrian Gonzalez for Jonathan Sanchez and maybe another minor leaguer. Now I usually dont like the idea of trading away young guys, but this may be worth it. It all of course depends on how Noah Lowry is doing.
combined with this:
If the Giants keep the lineup as is, and with their pitching, I predict them to go 91-71 and win the NL West
Why do we need to add a bat if you think we’ll win 91 games in a division that might be won by an 81 win team? Nevermind that adding Burrell or trading Sanchez for Gonzalez are probably zero net sum moves at best.

Are you saying that Sanchez for Gonzalez straight up would be a zero net sum move? Obviously that trade would never go down- I’m just trying to clarify

Yes. The difference between Sanchez and his internal replacement, and the difference between Gonzalez and Ishi + Phelps, is probably negligible.

Arguably this year
Probably not over the long haul.
..so allow me to present Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain as two sweet, sweet bottles of warming hooch.

Basically, in the long run, if we trade Sanchez for Gonzales we’ll have 2 open rotation slots. If we don’t, we’ll have 1 open rotation slot and 1 open first base job. I feel that our chances of developing 2 good pitchers are bigger than our chances of developing a good pitcher and a good 1B. Am I making sense?

I see what you mean
However, first base is a really easy position to fill. As great as our pitching prospects are, and our ability to develop them is, there is a lot more risk.
Basically, I don’t really think the difference between those two scenarios is much.

lineup
When Lewis is back healthy, he should bat much higher than seventh. He was one of our better hitters last year.

True that
The big mistake in the lineup above is batting Emmanuel Burriss second. Shouldn’t your worst hitter bat eighth? I probably wouldn’t even bat Kevin Frandsen second, but he would be a much better choice than Emmanuel IMO.
Since Sandoval isn’t likely to get on base much but could put a little fear into opponents as an RBI man, he should move down. That would allow Edgard Renteria to bat second and Fred Lewis third (or vice versa).

Sandoval’s obp is mostly batting average driven, since he rarely walks. He’s due for some regression from last season (most likely), and that means there’s a good chance he won’t get on base a whole lot. I think most projections have him batting around .280 (not sure though, maybe 1 said more like .300). But remember that last season his isolated obp was .012

Aside from everything mentioned, batting Renteria ahead of Lewis seems kinda dumb. Although either would be a better bet at #2 than Burriss.
