How bout this bat . . . Hardy har har?

I can't shake the feeling that the Brewers would be perfect trading partners with us: they have bats , we have arms. I can't find JJ Hardy's contract info (how many years he has left), but he's young enough, not that expensive, he's offensive, he hits for power, he can play ss or 3b, and the Brewers would love to have Jonathan Sanchez. There may be some peripheral players (Brewers have always coveted Taschner) but we'd ave our #5 hitter for  a few years. About Hardy's contract length . . .?

Brewers

they have already said they are holding onto JJ’s contract, meanign you would have to blow them away in order to get him. I don’t trust Sabean in trading for talent on anohter team that wants to hold onto it. Cal me crazy, but i think Sabean can be swindled.

Mebbe they'd be interested in a player with instant PR potential...

…such as the one we just acquired.

Brewers

I’d heard they were willing to move Hardy for a young pitcher that could be a top of the rotation guy and was major league ready. Ergo, J. Sanchez.

Don't believe everything you think.

Hardy

Here is his contract info. Hardy still has two years of arbitration left.

Thanks

Good sight, appreciate it.

You know how everyone always overrates their own players and underrates other team’s players in trade scenarios? Hardy is the perfect example. A shortstop who can slug .450-.500 while playing good defense, and he’s cheapish for the next two years? Maybe the Brewers would take Matt Cain straight up, maybe they’d want a little more. But that’s the starting price. They’d sneeze at anything based on Sanchez.

by Grant on Dec 27, 2008 2:25 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I agree

But I don’t think Hardy’s worth Cain.

..so allow me to present Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain as two sweet, sweet bottles of warming hooch.

by Cookyman on Dec 27, 2008 2:32 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Exactly. I wouldn’t make that trade, but it would be a pretty fair trade.

by Grant on Dec 27, 2008 2:34 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And I agree

I probably wouldn’t trade Matt for JJ, but I’m not sure the Brewers wouldn’t take Sanchez, Taschner +?

Don't believe everything you think.

we just signed Renteria to a 2-year deal (w/ possible 3rd), so it’s unlikely that we’d trade for another SS.

Indeed

And saying he can play third base and shortstop is not really meaningul. He’s one of the best defensive shortstops alive. Moving him to third would be like making Sabbathia a LOOGY.

Well, for the sake of argument, if the Giants somehow managed to acquire JJ Hardy, they would move Renteria to 2B. Renteria’s agent stated that he’d be willing to play 2B if that’s what the team asked him to do.

Renteria’s agent stated that he’d be willing to play 2B if that’s what the team asked him to do.

That’s pretty awesome. I’m liking Edgar more and more…

Given what they said about keeping Hardy after all

the talk about a Sanchez deal with them, it would take Cain to get Hardy. And he’s not worth it, given that the Giants just ponied up $18 million for Renteria to play that position. Sure, you could slide Renteria to 2B, but would that be worth losing Cain?

If you’re really going to put Cain on the block now, you better start with Chris Davis of Texas.

I agree with the Chris Davis part, he’s the only somewhat realistic possibility I would consider for a Cain trade. And even then I would want a throw in or two which would likely make the Ranger balk.

Throw in someone like English or Maday along with Sanchez and they’d do it. They’ve got Escobar ready to play SS and would save money on the deal. Although, if they were lucky enough to get someone to take Weeks, they could slide Escobar to 2b and keep JJ at short.

Either way, the Brewers have Escobar and Gamel ready for their close-up’s and they don’t cost anything.

Yeah throw in a shitty prospect with Sanchez for a top 5 ss and the brewers will bite.

Why does Sabean always look constipated?

by TexasRanger on Dec 27, 2008 4:21 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

This from the guy who thinks someone would actually take Zito and we could get Jason Heyward for Rowand? Come on, son, go make a deal for some oreo’s from moms. Young pitching is at an all-time premium, Ranger, it’s time you understood that.

by LAGiantsFan on Dec 27, 2008 4:36 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He’s right, there is no way the Brewers would trade Hardy for Sanchez + English or Maday. Also, that post he created was obviously, OBVIOUSLY sarcasm.

Just pointing out that supply and demand is in our favor. No one is giving up good, young pitchers, so it raises Sanchez’s value. English and Maday aren’t shitty, maybe fringe, but not shitty. Lead with that and let them counter with Joaquin or Sosa — then strongly consider it. The Brewers don’t have many places to shop. Maybe they get Peavy to accept a trade, but other teams with pitching don’t need JJ — or Prince for that matter. The Rays, Red Sox, Marlins, Angels — they have young pitching and don’t need those guys.

The Brewers and Giants do need each other, but they need us more than we need them. If they wouldn’t deal Hardy for Sanchez, then maybe Escobar straight up.

by LAGiantsFan on Dec 27, 2008 5:50 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Also no need for Hardy to be moved

Supply and demand is in the favor of the Brewers – there are precious few premium SSs. Hardy would instantly upgrade the pitching and offense.

The Rays and Red Sox could both benefit from Hardy.

They aren’t going to trade Escobar.

2 things
1. Indeed the first fan post was pure sarcasm and a microcosm of everything i observed while lurking.
2. I gotta say that the brewers have the upper hand, Hardy is much better and they dont want to trade him, the only reason that people say he should become a giant was because of Gammons speculation before the offseason. Sabean already checked in on JJ and was told that they didn’t want to trade him.

Why does Sabean always look constipated?

by TexasRanger on Dec 28, 2008 12:38 AM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The fact that we would have to deal cain for jj means this trade wont go down. I hate how much sense Cain for Chris Davis makes for the Giants but chances of that happening are not so good. If would be great if either Bumgarner, Alderson, or Pucetas could have developed and be MLB ready this season. Then we could have a real possibility of seeing wait cain is really worth

Chris Davis

I would love to have Chris Davis at 1st or 3rd, but I don’t think the Rangers are ready to bring Blalock back again (they’ve been trying to unload him all winter), and like the rest of you, I don’t want to deal Matt. Mostly, I think we’re gonna get Ishikawa (.245/14 hrs/53 rbi).

Don't believe everything you think.
