OT - The Hackman Speaketh
Just wanted to pass along details on my first week of driving a cab in SF. First I haven't been murdered, robbed, or arrested. Second, I drove my first HIV Positive meth-addict to the Tenderloin and back so he could score tweak from the El Salvadorean dealers and didn't get stiffed on the bill. I decided that I need to print up business cards and I'm going to do that this weekend. I notice people have really low expectations of cabbies and apparently opening the door for them, loading/unloading groceries, asking them what route they want me to take, or checking for left behind belongings are all things they are not prepared to see. I gave the Big O a ride to SFO Tuesday morning (bright and early), and met him, his wife, and daughter and they seem like nice normal and bright people. Anyone with any questions should feel free to ask or check out my ghetto website. BTW if anyone wants to help me do something nicer/newer/more user friendly, I'm open to help and I might even be able to find some money or something else for that help.

If you had been murdered and you were posting, I’d call that a pretty cool trick.

STFU and start posting if you don’t like reading what others are posting. Better yet, if you don’t like reading shit, don’t post on it.

I definitely got what I wanted. Though I’m Jewish so the X-mas thing isn’t applicable

Fortunately I have Thurs/Friday off
Right now I’m working 50 hours per week and more would probably lead me to killing people or myself

I'd be interested to see if I could mount my own camera into the cab and record
I’d probably need people to sign a waiver (and it would probably require them getting a free trip)…

I've been thinking about a Taxi Blog
But I’d want to do it nice and don’t want a template blogspot type set up. Something using Wordpress and a cool Taxi style layout. Alas I have no HTML skills and my design talents are worse…If anyone thinks they would be able to help me out though, i have some moniez and tradables…

Just curious, I noticed this on your website:
All airport trip prices do not include a $2 airport fee required by SFO and OAK airports.
What the hell is the purpose of that $2 fee?
by deuce deuce on Dec 26, 2008 10:34 AM PST reply actions 0 recs
So glad you asked that Question
I just checked my cab driver rules/regulations handbook and I erred on that. The $2 fee is for pickup fairs at the airport (as the airport charges taxi drivers $4 to park at the airport each time they pick up a fair there). The passenger is required to pay any toll for a bridge crossed on the trip regardless of which direction the trip is.

"fairs"
As opposed to “Hots”?
Or are you picking up whole amusement parks?
Along with the posted rates is “Allied Van Lines” on the side?

Interesting. I assume the airport charges the taxi drivers $4 just because they can and not for any real reason.

met him, his wife, and daughter and they seem like nice normal and bright people
clearly, it was VERY early in the morning… but we all appreciate the sentiment.
happy to report that we made it up here to the snowy north, and have had a great holiday so far. Only downside was when I took on my dad in a strat-o-matic type of ball, and his Dodgers (D.Lowe) trounced my Giants (M. Cain) 5-1. Actually, we were using last year’s stats, and it felt about right. Will throw J. Sanchez against his C. Billingsley this evening.
by BigO on Dec 26, 2008 1:12 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
well
I did win, and Sanchez was dominant, to the tune of 9 4 1 1 3 12. Unfortunately, it wasn’t actually the Bums we played. My dad played his complied team from a serious “deadball” league that’s been going since the early 80s (they play in the winters, with stats from the previous year – right now 2007). It was Billingsley going, though, and we creamed him, so that’s something. Molina delivered a bases-clearing double in the 3rd to put us up 5-1. Final: 9-1.
