Dynamic Pricing of Giants Games
Interesting concept. Hmm, I wonder which sections they're referring to when they talk about "a few tough-to-sell upper-deck outfield sections"...

The walk-up sales price for up to about 2,000 seats could even go up or down on game day. The change would be minimal, say somewhere between 25 cents and $2.
I can just picture someone holding out on buying tickets until the last minute to save 25 cents.

I know I definitely went to more Lincecum games because of the strikeout deal… $8 for a game was pretty hard to pass up.
I think this idea depends a lot on how easy it is to find out the variable ticket prices. The ballpark is definitely close to a lot of offices and some new condos, so they may be able to pick up some casual after-work fans, but I’m sure most people from elsewhere in the bay area won’t be swayed to come by for the chance to save $2 on nosebleed seats.
I’d also be interested to see a discount for games in progress, for example, $1 off for each inning as the game progresses… I might pay $5-6 to see the end of a good game from inside the park, but at full price I would probably just stop by the knothole over in right field (btw, I love that we have that!).
Dynamic pricing probably also makes it harder on scalpers by taking away some of the consumer surplus (on high demand games) and producer surplus (on low demand games), but whether or not this is better for fans trying to get into the park is hard to say.

Sec 335 336. Waaay out in L field. They can barely give them away. Much less think 2 bucks is going to make a difference. They are already priced at 10$ Mon-Thurs.

That’s the sections I was thinking of too.
Hell – I work in SF, if the weather is nice I’d have no problem buying a “dynamic ticket” for 336 and then going and sitting in 307.

Good point
Dynamic pricing works on planes because you can’t just take your ticket to sit in 27C and move on into an unsold first-class seat. Whereas, unless the Big Phone ushers are really going to go the extra mile to stop people, you could easily move from a crappy left-field upper deck seat to an empty lower-deck seat near the bullpen.
My plans for 2009: getting married and attending Tim Lincecum Bobblehead Day.

Also
Nice slam on the Brewers by ESPN, eh?
I’m thinking Milwaukee wishes we still had the Expos to kick around, eh?
“…for an April game against Milwaukee might pay half as much as they would for a weekend game with the rival Los Angeles Dodgers later in the year.”

I assume this also means...
…that when the Nationals come to town in May, they’ll pay us to watch the games.

One Pirates ticket – $0 +<complimentary eye patches (x2)>
One Rockies ticket – $8
One Rangers ticket – $9
One Dodger ticket – $25

yeah, why use the Brewers as an example? I can think of several teams that would excite me less than the Brewers.

I could have SWORN they were just in the playoffs.
And I remember plenty of Brew Crew folks at the Phone Booth last year, so ticket sales wouldn’t be a real problem, IMO.
I guess it just goes to show that ESPN’s east-coast-bias is more easterly and coasterly than previously thought. Or maybe the author was too lazy to look beyond the first couple series in April. Or both.
