OT: The Hackman Cometh
So it's official, I'm a taxi cab driver...A cabbie, a taxi man, or a hack. You can call me whatever you want, just call me. Let me say that this is officially a shameless play on your sense of loyalty and comradery, so don't flip out and call for bannination for me ok? If for whatever reason, you or anyone you know is in need of a cab this weekend (roughly 8am - 5pm), or anytime else, check out my website for scheduling info. We can talk about the glories of Lil Money, the AnVil or Timmy and you can ridicule me in person about my horrible postings and trade proposals (not to mention moving in the fences for more DINGERS!), or even just relax listening to your favorite Melissa Ethridge track on your Ipod nanotouchphone. So come one, come all and ride the friendly streets!

I forgot to add
That I load groceries into the trunk for you and if you’re nice will even help you carry them in. I open doors for passengers, I’ll take whatever route you want and give the option of fast (but safe) or leisurely, I always ask if you have everything so you don’t forget, I give a warning of impending arrival (a few blocks in advance), and best of all I know when to shut up and drive.

TBH I thought this would be about Jeffrey Leonard.
Good luck, though.

Perhaps..
He’ll give us a trip report about the time he’ll pick up Jeffrey Leonard in the future.

But I think we can all agree that that’s only a minor phonetic distinction.

we’re going to Red Lobster tonight and the streets are a little icy here in New York and we would rather take a cab than drive. Please pick us up around 6pm. Thanks.

my mom was a waitress so I was always taught to be generous. Unfortunately for the cabbie, my wife is a cheapskate!! He better hope my wife isn’t watching when I hand over the tip.

At the risk of generalizing/sexism
My impression has always been that men generally tip better than women. A couple of times when I’ve been out to dinner with a woman who’s paying and noticed a small tip, I’ve secretly left more money behind.
I’ve assumed it was because men traditionally pay more often than women so know what “standard” is. I’ve also thought perhaps men might take a little more “bigshot” pride and giving a generous tip. For me, it’s all about the service. The better it was, the more I’ll tip. I don’t think a server automatically deserves a 20% tip just because we walked through the door.
Any people with experience in a tipped industry notice a trend one way of another?

I tip on the quality of service. Do a good job and you’ll get more. I don’t tip more around the holidays just for the sake of it being the holidays, though. God doesn’t care if I give you fifty more cents, trust me. However, if you really kick butt, you’ll probably get the extra cash anyway.

I have never been a waiter, but I agree that men will typically tip more, in my experience. I will also tip exactly 15% to the penny if the service was not to my liking (cell phone tip calculator). OR if the waiter is absolutely horrible, then I will be a dick and tip $1. Or tip great if the service was great

I'm probably a horrible tipper..
But my tips will range anywhere from…
- $.01 for horrible horrible service. This way they get the point that you meant to leave a horrible tip instead of just forgetting to leave a tip.
-10% for service that was there, but wasn’t there enough. Could be because it’s too busy to get to us or something. Also if there is any rudeness.
-15% for average service.
-20% for very good service.

$.01 is much more of a slap in the face then $1. Thanks, I will do that next time there is a need.

that settles it, I will be go to a Silver Sox game this summer. Hackman seems like a fine person and definitely managerial material.
Was it Lowell Cohn that wrote the great interview column?
Wasnt it Guy Sularz that coined the phrase, “you’re the Hack man, you hack at everything”?
Will keep your contact info, hack

I know someone on another internet forum – IRC: dalnet – who lives in the City, he often uses public transport / cabs to get around, I’ll give him your info. He doesn’t seem like an ax murderer or anything.
Awesome.
Thanks for looking out for a fellow McC poster..

Are you saying he’s looking out for you because he’s trying to send you business or because he’s thinking about whether the referral is an ax murderer before he does?

can I say both and still seem normal?
