Yes?

Are you guys saying that you’re down with Downs?

Why isn’t Aaron King getting more respect? I’m thinking he should change his surname to the Trey of Clubs.

Off topic question

I’m trying to find the Fire Joe Morgan post where they allowed user comments but I’m having no luck. Does anyone know what it was called, off-hand? Thanks!

Why Aaron King before Edwin Quirarte?

Castillo got the DFA. Guestimate for Castillo DFA to come before the 2009 season = 2.

by kennv on Dec 19, 2008 7:04 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

I’d rate King of Quirarte because of upside. What is Quirarte’s ceilling? A late-inning reliever? If King can stick as a starter, he could be a 4/5th starter which in my opinion has more upside.

You can put it this way, if King fizzles out as a starter he can always convert into a bullpen arm. Quirarte will always be a reliever. And, funky arm-killing mechanics aside, King has some decent stuff. I think his velo is already better than Quirarte’s velo.

by xanthan on Dec 19, 2008 7:12 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Ok, I can see that. I was wondering how how King, drafted 2008 #207, jumped ahead of Quirarte, drafted 2008 #147. But know I’ve written that down it doesn’t look like a big deal. Oh wells.

Castillo got the DFA. Guestimate for Castillo DFA to come before the 2009 season = 2.

by kennv on Dec 19, 2008 7:21 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Drafting is inexact

Hence how a 50th round pick, Mike Piazza, became one of the top offensive catchers of his era and a better pick than just about any other guy in that draft probably. And Barnes jumped ahead of both Quirate and King, both drafted ahead of Barnes in 2008.

Also, it’s small sampling, hence how Jesse English actually had a better first season than Matt Cain, but then not so much since then.

That always amazes me. If not for his connections, he probably never would have even been invited to a camp. Because he was, he’ll be in the Hall of Fame. Makes you wonder how many other guys like that there are out there, but don’t have connections.

Relievers

Relievers get the short end of the deal on prospect lists because:

1) They are perceived to have less value to a team than starters and everyday players.
2) Many starters become relievers as they near the majors

I do think that we are close to electing our first reliever within the next 5 spots.

Who is the top rated reliever?

I thinks it’s either Pichardo or the new guy Perdomo. Just getting a shot is going to be tough with all the competition. Both are on the 40 man roster. Pichardo did well last year in Connecticut and possesses a 95 mph fastball. Perdomo is going to get a real long look in spring training. Matos got his chance and will probably get another, but I wasn’t impressed. Espinelli has probably got his one and only shot. Hendrick had great stats but watched as everyone else got their chance but him. The Giants don’t seem to be that in to him. Quirarte did pretty well, but didn’t dominate. Otero dominated but the scouts don’t seem to really like him that well.

Raptors have birthdays? Is that from when the egg is laid? or when the shell starts to crack? Or when they are hatched?

However I believe the best thing to feed a freshly hatched Raptor is a Dodger defeat.
