On another matter, I talked to Giants official Bobby Evans after I posted yesterday’s blog on Jesus Guzman. Evans said the Giants at this moment do not view him as a contender to make the 2009 team out of spring training, although, Evans said, “He could turn some heads. You never know. (But) I wouldn’t factor him into the front pages of our expectations for the big-league season.”
The Giants believe he needs to go to the minors to continue his development, particularly on defense.
