and now that I've read the article...
his point is kind of irrelevant. Sabes is pissed because the media made it look like the Giants were poised to sign CC when they apparently didn’t even contact him. I’d be a little mad too. Now all of the casual Giants fans are saying shit like “Why couldn’t we reel in CC?!?!?” when we never had any intention to, and it’s really the writers’ faults for getting their hopes up. And it’s not like the fans get that; they just blame it on Sabes. Sabes is totally right to be mad, IMO.

The way I see it, Sabes is one of the only people to know if the writers here are full of shit.

He was a bit tactless, but if you’re getting on Sabes for doing his job badly, then the sportswriters deserve it just as bad.

How are the sportwriters doing their job badly?
They hear rumors, they report the rumors. If Sabean doesn’t like the rumors, because they are plants from agents or whatever other reason, then he should head them off by being more open with the press. He can’t play his cards close the vest and then get all indignant when the press misjudges his hand.
Of course, he should be playing his cards close the vest. and the press should be forced to print often fallacious rumor, and Sabean should know this and keep his mouth shut. This is the business he has chosen, deal with it.
