Ankiel?
"2. The Cardinals have been surprised at the level of interest in center fielder Rick Ankiel. The Yankees have been among at least five teams looking into obtaining Ankiel. The Braves, Rays and Giants are among the others. Ankiel, the one-time erratic pitcher, hit 25 homers in just 413 at-bats last year during an injury-disrupted season. He is one year removed from free agency and as a Scott Boras client almost certainly will test the market. However, he should make only about $3 million as an arbitration-eligible player in 2009."

Careful now, Sabean will go postal on you
"Brian Sabean’s face reddened and his voice built into a shout. The Giants’ general manager didn’t hide his displeasure during a stunning session with four beat reporters in his Bellagio hotel suite Wednesday night.
He wasn’t angry because Rick Ankiel wasn’t traded by the Cardinals. Instead, Sabean railed against what he took to be an overblown, media-created perception that the Giants went hard after the soon-to-be free-agent outfielder, former pitcher, and admitted HGH user.
“Every way you turn with this, (the media) created the perception and I’ve got to respond to it, and I and the organization gets fucked,” said Sabean, forcefully. “And I’m sick of it.”
Sabean wasn’t happy about being portrayed as “losing out” on Ankiel when he said the Giants were never serious bidders. “But we still need a centerfielder. Shit howdy, do we ever.”
