I'm at least glad that
he didn’t sign with the Dodgers

Aww, really?
So we’re back to trying “prudent and respectable”? shucks.

“At least $140 million.”
Well I’m glad we didn’t get into that at least.

I’m fine with this. He’s not a Dodger and the Giants can continue to look toward 2010. With the obtions available to really make this team competitive next year rapidly drying up, I’m becoming a bit less fond of the Renteria deal. Hopefully he’ll help us win the division in 2010.

As usual, the Chronicle is on top of this.

not sure if that’s a link fail or a jab at the Chron…

Huh, the link is acting really weird for me, right now, so I’m not sure if it failed or not. The link was to their article that was something like “Giants TOTALLY Want CC, Guys; CC Wants Them Back As Hard As He’s Ever Wanted Anything.”
So, yeah, it was a jab at the Chron. Weird about the non-functional link, though. Maybe it’ll clear itself up.

$160 mil / 7
At that price, they’re welcome to him and godspeed.

So it is reported this morning that C.C. Sabathia has reached an agreement with the Yankees with “no major road blocks.”
As a Giants fan, I feel like this is a good thing because I wouldn’t want to invest another 100+ mil contract to a pitcher. Although I do like Sabathia (and imagine our rotation on Timmy, Sabathia, Cain, Zito, ?), I would rather spend less money for a solid bat……
I’m really pulling for PAT BURRELL, I ahve always liked him and apparently he has shown interest in San Francisco.

Burrell and Unit
Two Bay Area guys that improve the team considerably in the short term without blocking prospects or mortgaging the future.
If we can get Pat the Bat to play first.
We do those and I’m calling it a pretty solid offseason.

I agree, sign both of them and I’ll be pleased with the offseason

darn
I was hoping CC wouldn’t sign with the Yanks, but what really gets me is that it sounds as if there will be an opt out clause after 3 years.
the numbers just never worked out for us getting CC and I’m glad that flirtation is over.

Man
Giants didn’t even try for CC is what upsets me.
Hasheem "The Dream" Thabeet or Brandon Jennings. A Warrior in 09.
With the 6th Pick in the 2009 MLB Draft, the SF Giants pick Donovan Tate.
Andre Smith in Silver & Black in 2009.

No worries
MadBum and Judgement Day are on the Matt-Cain-Fast-Track per Sabes.
That should make it up. But probably won’t see them until 2010.

$160 Million buys an awful lot of ice
So much for wanting to play close to home.
What’s this “opt out” clause in the contract that’s been mentioned? And why couldn’t the Giants have put that in Zito’s contract?

Apparently it’s an option on CC’s side that if for whatever reason he wants to escape from New York he can do it after 3 years.
