Posey and Roger K. Make BA Top 20 HWB Prospect List

Posey finished at #1 and Roger at #10. The full article is subscriber required but Posey got good marks for his improving defense as the HWB went on. BA notes that he was catching pitches like cutters which he had no previous experience with in college.

Roger got good marks for his impressive power but scouts noted that more advanced pitchers exploited the holes in his swing. His 46 strikeouts led the league.

Glad to hear about Posey’s progress defensively.

A season with Decker should be a great thing for him.

In the chat, Roger getting some Rob Deer comparisons.

Q: Timmy L. from San Francisco asks:
Does Roger Kieschnick show signs of gaining better control of the strike zone or will always be an all or nothing type hitter?

A: John Manuel: Well, this was his first time, his pro debut, and he showed no signs of that, that’s the whole concern. Definitely some scouts who saw him as an amateur and others who saw him in HWB who think of him as an all-or-nothing type, almost a Rob Deer kind of guy, because he does have other tools — he’s athletic enough, he has a good arm, he runs fine. But he’s never going to be a contact hitter, that’s just not him.

Timmy L. from San Francisco is just wondering if Roger will score him some runs.

Rob Deer, Jeromy Burnitz…..I am happy with all of the comparisons.

Me too.

I’ll take a stab at Dave Kingman 2.0.. Roger “King Kong” Kieschnick!

You probably know it as MYANMAR, but it will always be BURMA to me!

Guys if Roger sends me any type of dead rodent I’ll be forced to kick him in the balls.

He has a good arm, right?

What about this guy as the optimistic comp?

The Denker bus is now bound for San Diego. Those who were passengers on it are now angrily stranded at a gas station in Modesto, CA. Not much about baseball here .

I guess it depends on whether or not we can give Roger steroids.

Also, in his peek, Buhner was drawing 60+ walks per season. I’m not sure if Roger will be doing that, yet.

Very nice to hear that Posey’s defense is improving. I’m going to quit worrying about it for now.

I don’t know how much you can take from a winter league’s season about defense. I’m not sure if you can really take anything from a winter league. He got good reviews in college, he got mixed reviews in the winter league, let’s see how he does next year and then re-evaluate.
