                                   NARRATOR
Brian Sabean says the Giants are on
                         the right track. He takes
                         responsibility for players such as
                         Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, Buster
                         Posey, and Madison Bumgarner.

                                   NARRATOR
But can we trust him to know what
to do with the talent when it
                         arrives? Sabean was quoted as
                         saying...

                                   SCARY VOICE
"If we had signed Vladimir Guerrero
or Gary Sheffield, we would have
                         been without Jim Brower, Scott
                         Eyre, Matt Herges, Dustin
                         Hermanson, Brett Tomko, A.J.
                         Pierzynski, Pedro Feliz, J.T. Snow,
                         Jeffrey Hammonds, Dustan Mohr and
                         Michael Tucker -- obviously not
being able to field a competitive
                         team, especially from an experience
                         standpoint, given our level of
                         spending."

                                   NARRATOR
How wrong can one man be? As
recently as two years ago, Sabean
                         was trying to give five-year
                         contracts to Gary Matthews, Jr.
and Juan Pierre -- two players who
                         have already lost their starting
                         jobs.

                                   NARRATOR
                         Sabean already traded away one
of the most electric arms in
baseball when he gave up on
                         Francisco Liriano. Could it happen

                                   NARRATOR
We would like to believe you,
Brian. But the Giants can't afford
to. Vote "no" on Brian Sabean.

BRILLIANT

Prior to 2003 or so, I was a staunch Sabean defender. Now I’m pretty sure he eats babies. I don’t really do half-way.

What man? Which man? Who’s the man? When’s a man a man? What makes a man a man? Am I a man? Yes. Technically I am. - FotC

AN INSTANT CLASSIC

Why isn't Sabean held accountable for leading the Giants into many years of mediocrity???

by oldrips on Nov 4, 2008 3:59 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

FWIW, I think the decision to give Sabean this season under the new regime was a good one. The drafts have been solid (others deserve credit here as well), and a direction has been identified.

Not saying there havent been mistakes, but I’m giving him the benefit of the season to show significant progress.

on the bright side

at least he’s not trying to build a championship-contending team for 2009, right? that means no more trying to put a bandaid where the arm got severed and hope it’s fine….. right?

Would that be prop 75 or prop 109? I get those two confused, and I really should have it straight when I get to my polling place.

Zito on Jag

Directv description of a Jag episode on USA Network 4AM on DTV, 7AM if you have cable (on the West Coast) on Wednesday morning, November 5th, “The Navy’s star pitcher (Barry Zito) faces assault charges after hitting a Marine with a ball during the annual baseball game.”

A McC newcomer but not outstanding.

what differnece would it make if Zito did hit somebody with a fastball? Can you sue if a bruise won’t form?

It feels like Neukom is less tied to Sabean than Magowan was. That may or may not be true, but that is how it feels to me anyway. IMO, Duke is more likely (and willing) to flip the trapdoor switch on Sabean than Peter was.

Brian has been given different marching orders than in the past. I was firmly in the Fire Sabean camp but now I am glad they held off. If (when?) he breaks ranks and tries to do a “screw the future I must have vets” move then kick his ass to the curb. So far, he seems to be doing and saying the right things.

i'll know my leanings in december

after the winter meetings in december i feel i’ll know if we have the old and irresponsible sabean from years ago or the new and savvy sabean from this past year – he’s kinda like reverse mccain.

There amass been plenty of articles written this spring about the stud shortstop Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum , as well as the fluid young outfielders and thirteen basemen Kevin Frandsen.
