Ty Wigginton?

I recently read a mlbtraderumors.com rumor from Nick Cafardo.  He listed that the Tribe maybe interested in Wigginton at third.  What do you guys think?  We have no apparent third basemen other than some guys that we suspect will battle it out in Spring Training or a free agent signing/ or trade.

I recently took a look at his stats and they look pretty good...386 abs...23 bombs...i think thats pretty good...now its questionable how he would handle full starting time, but, i think he would do quite well.

What would it take to get him?

A Giant NO to this.

Why isn't Sabean held accountable for leading the Giants into many years of mediocrity???

For the ML Minimum maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe

And only if that means we’ve traded so many young infielders to obtain an All Star player that we are short in that dept and need an old not horrible player w major possitional flex.

Sabes said Pablo is our starting first baseman. whether that is true, we’ll see, but that’s a pretty big statement that we can’t just disregard.

Do not want. period.

Todd Jennings: If he's on the DL, he can't suck as much, right?

by Speedforthewin on Nov 4, 2008 9:28 AM PST reply actions

Why not?

He’s definitely a good hitter. It’s just a question of cost.

by boonitez on Nov 4, 2008 4:17 PM PST up reply actions

I would totally take Wiggy. He’s a solid 3b and better than the NOTHING (or Frandsen/Rohlinger platoon) we have starting at 3b right now.

As with the MLBTR comment, who would the DisAstros have to play 3rd if they trade him? Jose Castillo? I don’t think they want to go that route and I can only see them trading Wiggy if they get a MLB-ready 3b back in return, which we don’t have to offer.

But I wouldn’t give up too much for him. He clearly wouldn’t be a long term solution to the 3b black hole. I’d pay whatever the going rate for a league average gap filler is.

Bonds stands alone.

He’s mainly notable for looking like the Pillsbury Dough Boy. So no.

I don't want him

but it is tough to ignore the numbers:
.287 .348 .490 (zips projection for 2009), and a “fair” fielder (though it seems to me that I’ve seen another defensive ranking that has him as a real clunker).
Also, Dial’s OPD for 2008 has him just behind (and the same age as) ARam in Chicago

by BigO on Nov 4, 2008 9:50 AM PST reply actions

He’s an underrated player, but he’s not good enough to make a difference in whether we contend next year, and he’s not young enough to project as a possible long-term solution. So I’m not sure what the point is.

Has anybody looked at his Home/Road splits?

"A flute with no holes...."

I laughed.

Am I mad, in a coma, or back in time? Whatever's happened, it's like I've landed on a different planet. Now, maybe if I can work out the reason, I can get home.

What about

a Sandoval/ Frandsen/ Burris/ Gillaspie infield? All four are proven major leaguers….with more than half a MLB’s worth of AB’s among them.

We don’t need Wiggington or any of your thirtysomethings

He is slated to be a free agent next winter. So what’s the rush?
