No, not like that. Rick Peterson breaks down the mechanics and mind games behind Zito's curve.

The weird thing is, there was a time when I forgot that Zito was so famous for his curve, since he was doing so badly, and his curve wasn’t the same. I was kind of surprised when I found this a while back, with how it reminded me. Anyway, I always like seeing those slowed down videos of pitching motions, didn’t the Giants hire some kind of video analysis company a few months ago?

Let him surf. Drag his ass out there if necessary.
What’s new? Anyone who bowls a hook knows that if you decrease directional velocity while maintaining rotational speed you’ll get more movement.
Hope he gets his mind right.
Who has the fun?
Is it always the man with the gun?

I don't know why I can't give up the dream...
but can you imagine if Barry Zito even gets back to being a 15 and 10 pitcher? He has obviously lost a number of feet on his fast ball, but great pitchers in the past have adjusted to similar problems. Perhaps the issue with Zito is that he was a great thrower for a couple of years, but has never been a great pitcher.
As for the article, I was under the impression that he didn’t necessarily lose his curve, it’s just that his curve has lost its effectiveness because hitters no longer have to respect his fast ball. I wonder if they could teach him some other pitch. Does anyone know if Zito might be able to learn a split? I know you have to have long fingers. Maybe Zito could grow a bushy beard, channel Sutter, and get his groove back by throwing a split. If it ruins his arm, the Giants wouldn’t be much worse off than they are now.
