I want you...to help me...help you....
I'm winding up my degree at San Jose State, and one of the final requirements is a small practicum assignment. I need to use my writing skillz in a positive, non-profit capacity. After those stipulations, it's pretty open. I can edit the literature of a non-profit group, write a flyer, edit or compose web-based information. I can work with individuals too -- helping edit schoolwork for someone who struggles with writing, reading "Little Women" to people at a homeless shelter like Moe (no joke), etc...
Is there anyone out there who has something in mind for me? The only requirement for the other party is that someone from the receiving end of the help writes up a little paragraph (up to a page) about my work.
Note that because I'm a procrastinating moron, this would need to move somewhat quickly, as my small report on what I did is due next Thursday, so it would need to move somewhat quickly. E-mail me at mccoveychronicles @ gmail.com if you know of anything.
Thanks. And now we return to our regularly scheduled overreaction to stray rumors.

this website doesn’t qualify as positive non-profit help? It sure beats anything I have ever done for humanity.

I was thinking the same thing. There are plenty of us here who would write you glowing testimonials about overcoming depression and stepping back from ledges due to this website! …I have 2 projects and an oral presentation also due this Thursday but I’m sure we could write you a blurb if you needed it. Heck just print out and hand in one of the “Grant Appreciation Threads” !

Maybe the advertising on the site makes it not qualify? Not sure, otherwise this would be a perfect example.

Exactly.
Money can’t buy mental help this effective. And making the bulk of us unwashed Giants fans almost coherent in the written form to the rest of humanity should qualify you for a Nobel prize for every year you continue to do this.

I don’t know of anything off the top of my head, but I’ll definitely be looking around for you.
Also: Spartans are the best ones. I’m a lot happier with my prize since I didn’t get into Stanford. SJSU is better for us anyway.

I need to do a PR project for a friend on Friday (which is otherwise a holiday for me) and don’t really feel like doing it. Would you like to do it for me? I won’t pay you, so it’ll qualify as non-profit.

Man, you do procrastinate
I know of a couple of 503s that would love some help. Unfortunately they are all gone for the thanksgiving holiday, so the timeframe wouldn’t work. Too bad.

Just wondering
wouldn’t your post applauding the would be signing of Edgar Renteria qualify as a positive, non-profit use of your writing skillz?

I run a 501c3 and we submitted all of our 2009 grant applications just a week ago. We can always put any talented volunteer to work.

Can you write an article summarizing why the “SLIM CLIP” on those infomercials is any different from a regular freakin money clip? I just saw the commercial and they act like it’s some brand new flippin technology. Sorry for venting on your thread.
The bases were drunk, and I painted the black with my best yakker. But blue squeezed me, and I went full. I came back with my heater, but the stick flares one the other way and the chalk flies for two bases. Three earnies! Next thing I know, skipper hooks me and I'm sipping suds with the clubby.

Funny
I was going to say this about that Renteria thing, but that particular piece is way more work than he probably needs to do for the assignment.
