Projecting the Giants hitters: the Olivers
I'm actually not too familiar with Brian Cartwright's Oliver system, but using information from these two sites, it's supposed to be slightly more advanced than the Marcels, including some minor league and batted ball data. Someone, preferably a non-computer, correct me if I'm wrong.
Looking at our favorite targets using batting average/on-base average/slugging average and weighted on-base average (which I think was .333 for an average hitter last season. correct me if i'm wrong again. humans only):
Manny Burriss: .262/.316/.324 for a wOBA of .291 (ouch)
Pablito: .290/.318/.453 for a wOBA of .332. That's kind of Meh
"Scott": .273/.331/.434 for a wOBA of .335
I have to run to class, but these projections so far have me more pessimistic about 2009 than I already was.
What do you all think?

I didn’t make the links pop up in a new tab/window, so you’re going to have to do that manually. sorry

I greatly prefer it this way, myself. Personally, if I want my link to open in a new window/tab, I can do that myself. It’s called right click.

What is this right click you speak of, PC-breath?
Am I mad, in a coma, or back in time? Whatever's happened, it's like I've landed on a different planet. Now, maybe if I can work out the reason, I can get home.
Right click is convenience itself.

This is the correct way to do things. Everyone else is wrong because I say so.

Interesting, thanks for the link. I’ll download them into Excel and run around in the projections later. I’m not surprised that it’s more critical of Manny if it’s using some sort of minor league data to help it’s forecasts.

I’m afraid the Giants’ hitting will be quite a atrocious.
If you watch them long enough you’ll end up acrimonious

Olivers fun projection game!
According to these projections the Giants have two hitters projecting an OPS of over .800.

My current Interwebs obsession is pretty awesome. Also, my website is called ChatterBalks Dot Com. It's not being updated right now. Hope for more at your own risk.

actually there are 3
not all current Giants are listed in SFN.
But something is quite odd about those projections; of the top 7 projected hitters (9 if you include the 3rd .800 OPS guy, although he is projected to a different park?), NONE of them were starters last year, and only 2 saw any time on the MLB team.
The 8-9-10th projections are Rowand, Sandoval and Winn.

these are brutal
but I expect Zips will say the same.
The sad part is that they don’t even look much better when you replace our infielders with the likes of Hudson, Furcal, Beltre, etc.
