OT: Election night parties?
The Chronicle lists some places that are hosting election night events on Tuesday. I start my new job in Walnut Creek tomorrow, not too far from the Pyramid Ale House. There's supposed to be a thing at Pyramid. I'm thinking about making an appearance.
Anyone else know of or hosting anything on Tuesday? I'm sure the politicos here would know or are looking for a place to go.

I’m so sick of this election, I’m going to bed early and not listening to a word of it. [With all the absentee ballots they say it won’t be final right away anyways] On the other hand – I know Mr. Merope will be glued to the tube all night – and was thinking of taking off work on wednesday!
Oooooo – now there’s an unforeseen election benefit: I get all the covers Tuesday night!

I’m either going to 1: celebrate by getting drunk, or 2: fall into a deep and unending depression, depending on how things go.
No public party, though.

Maker Sure You Vote, If you have not already...
While I continue to have some anxiety regarding the integrity of our process, I am optimistic.
There have been record turnouts for early voting in nearly every state. In Florida , people stood in line for over three hours to vote early. Over 350,000 votes have been recorded for the Democratic Candidate in Dade County. People want to make sure that their voice is heard this election.
No Party Tonight, but hopefully a celebration for the US and the world on January 20th 2009.

Ok, cool. Flaming worries me because there’s been much more opinionated politics showing up here lately (naturally) and it’s tough to 1) get to a comment early enough to step in and 2) see where the line is drawn when I do. I’m glad to see that my anxieties were unfounded here.

Maybe if they hadn’t started campaigning for 08 back in 05 it wouldn’t have gotten so tedious.
I still say a 10% tax on all political ads would solve lotsa problems.

I didn’t say it would, but maybe they’d buy less ads, and start in on the advertising later if they had to pay a fee/tax on all the ads/propaganda

I am 99.9% sure that this will not deter anyone but the Big Two parties from buying ads. This may stem the tide of 527s (your Swiftboaters, your MoveOns, etc.), which I think we all can agree would be a good thing (though unconstitutional). But at the same time, this would also penalize third parties who do not have the massive of war chests of the Big Two.

Just had a thought...
I think that Bush is as much of an idiot as anyone else, but it’s a little hypocritical that this photo can be posted and, well, there’s not much wrong with it. But if it was Bush he would be lambasted for looking like an idiot.
Now, if someone can only photoshop him in there we’ll all be happy.
Wow, I hope I used those two big words right!

At the time, a lot of people felt this photo DID make HST look like an idiot. HST was a wildly unpopular president during his presidency that GOP pundants like to draw comparisons between HST and GWB, their approval ratings, and their respective places in history.
(Mrs. Truman was quite displeased when this photo got out, by the way. To draw a comparison, Lauren Bacal was kinda the Scarlet Johansen of that time — young, very good looking, smoky voice, involved in Democratic Party politics, though Bogey was a bigger when it came to celeb Dem support.)

I hid because I know there are some strong right wingers out here who might have taken offense to having the race declared over before the vote. It’s not controversial, but I can see where it would give some people fits.
Luckily, this is a case of the system working. Grant disagreed with my reasoning and vetoed the decision. The past few hours show that he was the more correct of the two of us.
Hope you understand. This politics stuff is hard to moderate. There’s been some stuff here the last few days that I’ve wanted to moderate but haven’t out of deference to the community’s general good will. Being less than a day away from the election just put me in the mind that people might be more on edge, and i jumped the gun a bit.

I was planning on buying leftover Halloween candy from CVS for me and my roommate to gorge on while watching the coverage but everyone else got it already. So I don’t know now. We’ll have ice cream in honor of you-know-who.
And I’m optimistic. I was starting to get a bit nervous but everything looks good today.

I admit I have addictive personality and I have replaced baseball with the election in terms of rabid 24-7 news and television watching, but I’m actually really digging all the hullabaloo leading up to the election.
"While conservatives tell you 'leave things alone and no one will lose,' and liberals tell you 'interfere a lot and no one will lose,' baseball says 'someone will lose.' Not only says it - but insists upon it! ... Democracy is lovely, but baseball's more mature." BVCE supports SF Dugout and Manny Burriss.
