Pablo's ROY eligibility
Am I correct in thinking that since Pablo was over the 130AB limit last year with 145AB's that he will not be considered a rookie next season? Anyone know for sure?

Yes, you are correct in thinking that 145 is more than 130.

In fact, I'm so old, I saw "...6 string..." and immediately made the link to Foreigner without taking the time to realize you were lyric-quoting another aging rocker.

yes, the lyric from 'Juke Box Hero' is
“Bought a beat-up six-string, from a second hand store”
GJ – if you like Foreigner, you are OK in my book.
Ah, the one above is Eddie Money – but I thought Frgner too (tired of typing it).

Actually, I believe the 6-string lyriquote above is from Bryan Adams... (?)
But that’s not important now…what is important is that I think I’m sensing that a shared love of Foreigner could bring harmony to the zenbitz & G_J blogationship.
Wait, wait…a shared love of foreigners? I’m picturing two beauties from…

Anyone remember the "Day On The Green?" concerts
My first arena rock experience was a 1980’s “Day On The Green” concert in San Francisco…I think it was at Candlestick. Headliners were Journey, Night Ranger, and Bryan Adams. Adams sang “Summer of ’69” that has the ‘beat-up six string’ lyric. I laugh at that song, because if he bought his first six string in ’69, he would have been 10 years old, which think is a little young for a budding guitarist.
Oh yeah…while I was waiting in line for the concert in the parking lot, a seagull crapped on my leg. Niiiice.

Day on the Green concerts were Oakland Colliseum events. Because my tamily owned an Ticketron outlet I ended up going pretty much every year and saw every one of those horrible 70s arena rock bands several times over (yes including Foreigner). Awful. Thank god for drugs. And really thank god for the 70s when pretending you were wheelchair bound was a perfectly successful way to sneak a keg into professional arena. You just can’t get away with that stuff anymore.

As awful as many DOtGs were, you would have seen the Who and the Dead share a bill in 76…not too shabby.
Also of odd pairing note: the final DOtG in 92 saw Pubic Enemy open for U2.

I believe I caught every single Who appearance in the Bay Area from about 68-82 (and a good amount of Dead, as well). Because American tours in those days tended to end in SF, I think I actually saw the final appearances of both the Who with Keith Moon and Zepplin with John Bonham.

Juke Box Hero (a truly great rock anthem...) lyrics in their entirety
Standing in the rain, with his head hung low
Couldnt get a ticket, it was a sold out show
Heard the roar of the crowd, he could picture the scene
Put his ear to the wall, then like a distant scream
He heard one guitar, just blew him away
He saw stars in his eyes, and the very next day
Bought a beat up six string in a secondhand store
Didnt know how to play it, but he knew for sure
That one guitar, felt good in his hands
Didnt take long, to understand
Just one guitar, slung way down low
Was one way ticket, only one way to go
So he started rockin
Aint never gonna stop
Gotta keep on rockin
Someday hes gonna make it to the top
And be a juke box hero, got stars in his eyes
Hes a juke box hero
He took one guitar, juke box hero, stars in his eyes
Juke box hero, hell come alive tonight
In a town without a name, in a heavy downpour
Thought he passed his own shadow, by the backstage door
Like a trip through the past, to that day in the rain
And that one guitar made his whole life change
Now he needs to keep rockin
He just cant stop
Gotta keep on rockin
That boy has got to stay on top
And be a juke box hero, got stars in his eyes
Hes a juke box hero, got stars in his eyes
Yeah, juke box hero, got stars in his eyes
With that one guitar hell come alive
Come alive tonight
Yeah, hes gotta keep rockin
He just cant stop
Gotta keep on rockin
That boy has got to stay on top
And be a juke box hero, got stars in his eyes
Hes a juke box hero, got stars in his eyes
Just one guitar, put stars in his eyes
Hes just a juke box hero, aah aah aah
Juke box hero, juke box hero, hes got stars in his eyes
Stars in his eyes
(dang that got long…)

Yea..
Those bands that play with just one member in the band=Meh. Even if you lose one you lose a lot of the magic. “Led Zeppelin” is reuniting for an album and perhaps tour but since it’s just Page and Jones they aren’t calling themselves Led Zeppelin. at least that’s what the news is.

Robert Plant..
He’s lost quite a bit. I’ve heard tapes from the O2 Reunion Show and he just doesn’t have the same power. Songs had to be tuned down for him because he couldn’t reach the vocals he needed to as well. Not saying he’s not a good singer anymore, but he’s not Led Zeppelin quality anymore. I’m not sure who they are using as a singer, although that was one of the rumors.
I’ve heard some tapes of him with Krauss and he does sing well though.

Josh: Right On!
I’ve seen Josh live several times (solo & with the band) in SF & LA, and I even “created” a business trip last December so that I could catch his Songs for A Friend sets at Club Passim in Boston. (An incredible evening…) I think his songwriting is pure genius, his vocals are pure, and he has a wicked quick sense of humor… I have everything he’s ever officially released, and several obscure recordings and love it all.
For those who don’t know Josh Ritter, check out the “4 Songs Live EP” (an extremely affordable introduction to his work) then check back with me for further recommendations once you’re hooked.
