Giants Signing Dodgers?
As the offseason progresses there has been a lot of rumblings over us signing many former Dodgers. The names popping up have included Manny, Furcal, Blake, and Biemel. As Giants fans how does everyone feel about this. Are we doing our self a service by taking away our biggest rivals best players, or are we just making stupid decisions pursuing them? Do you like the idea of signing former Dodgers or will they always have that crummy Dodger scent if we sign them?

If a player is productive sign him. Except no Manny. He quit on the Sox.

manny
I am getting a little concerned with the increase in Manny-to-the-Giants rumours in the last couple of days. Please, Brian, do not do that. Apart from performance concerns in his late thirties, Manny would restore the one-man circus atmosphere. Plus, as per the thread, he’s now been a freakin’ Dodger. Do not want.

Why isn't Sabean held accountable for leading the Giants into many years of mediocrity???

I voted for Beimel even though we signed Affeldt. He’s been pretty untouchable in 2 seasons and would have come even cheaper than Affeldt, perhaps. Furcal’s a good option but I just don’t trust his health having watched him in the past two seasons with LA.

More
I like Beimel a LOT, although I would think he will receive MORE dollars than Affeldt, not fewer. Beimel seems to be doing it a little bit with mirrors, but those mirrors have stayed in focus a few years now.

Poised
Beimel does appear poised to fall well back next season, so perhaps he’s not as good a choice as he first appeared. If that is the case, let’s give the Giants credit for some (hopefully) good analysis.

Beimel is nothing close to Affeldt, if he gets more money, that just shows teams stupidly overvaluing ERA for a reliever.

No spit...
That’s atrocious. And we simply don’t have a need there with my main man (his hotness) — Pablo Sandoval — ready to man the hot corner.

as of today, Pablo Sandoval hitting .419 with NINE homeruns in winter ball. He seems to be a fairly good hitter.

The best news
The best news is that Pablo is finally hitting southpaws. Small sample, but certainly encouraging. He went 3-for-3 with two homers a couple of days ago. I think at least the two homers came against southpaws.
If Pablo can indeed break out against southpaws as he did against righties last season, that would be some of the best news we could hope for.

You want Lasorda on this team? I think he would gnaw off his foot (with a dash of Chipotle Tabasco) before joining the Giants

Nicely done (assuming you pulled my love for Chipotle Tabasco from the OT fookie thread)...
But actually, I was referring to the “this post sucks” option above which incorporates Lommy Tasorda by reference.

I voted Penny
Even though I hated him as a dodger, I think he is a great high upside signing. If we can get him for a two year deal at 5-6 per plus incentives I think it would make total sense.
Not only have reports very positively rated his off season commitment to fitness, but he has the stuff to pitch very well. If we had him signed to a reasonable contract and he had a great first half he could fetch a decent return at the trade deadline.
If not, a rotation of CY, Cain, Dirty, a healthy and effective Penny, and Zito would be pretty imposing.
Someone get Damon Minor's agent on the phone stat!

I voted penny too
I think the exact same thing, and they keep stressing how hard he is working this offseason. Tiim, Cain, Zito, Penny, and Dirty would be awsome. I just think its a low risk that is totally worth it becuase when healthy he is solid.
