Someone has made an offer to Furcal...

According to mlbtraderumors.com, an undisclosed team has made a 3 yr./39 mil offer to Furcal.

Could it be the giants...thoughts?

Matt Cain: throwing complete game shutouts since 06'. No big deal.

WHY?

Didn’t his agent ask for 4Y/$40Mil? So why would we offer 3Y/$39Mil?!? That’s kind of troublesome to think about. Plus, wasn’t that the same deal he signed with the Dodgers?

a) I don’t think his agent was seeking 4 year, 40, probably more

b) If that was true, Sabean would justify it by saying “we just didn’t want to go four years” in classic Sabean moronic fashion (although he’s done well so far, to his credit)

Giants

Sabean probably wanted to strike quickly offering Affeldt and Furcal contracts. Furcal’s agent is saying it may take a couple of weeks before he signs so will be interesting to see what Sabean will do.

Considering Renteria and Cabrera are both Type “A” free agents and would probably cost a second round draft pick Sabean may just wait it out until after the offer arbitration date.

I hope it's us

I don’t want Furcal at 4 years but I’ll take him for 3

here's what I wrote over at Lefty's site

On the subject of signing a middle infielder (for some reason, anonymously). If this is us, my numbers look somewhat…how do I say, prescient:

Don’t think Hudson would be a good idea. Not only does he cost you a 2nd-round pick in next year’s draft, but it means that you pretty much disqualify Frandsen from the infield competition (unless you want to try him at 3rd, which he doesn’t have the bat for). I’d rather go for a SS if we’re going to pick up a middle infielder, but I’d say that Furcal will be at least 3/40. Too much.

It's probably the A's

Oakland is supposedly going hard after Furcal, although there was rumors that they hadn’t made an offer yet and the Giants had. So it could be us…?
