Buying a Giants cap

Hey guys, and gals, I had a quick question that may seem simple to some, but I'm looking to buy a fitted Giants baseball hat for a recent convert to the fandom of the Giants, but I'm not sure where to look. Any suggestions on online stores, websites, actually 20th century stores one might have to drive or walk to or even take BART to?

On a completely unrelated note, do you think we could somehow trick the Yankees into taking Barry Zito for a 6 year, 140 million dollar contract and then sign CC? Just a complete perfect world dream I had the other day. Timmah, CC, Matt Cain and pray for rain sounds pretty good to me.

I've always leaned away from fitted...

The only fitted hat that I’ve bought doesn’t fit anymore. Hair is apparently a large input in this equation, and once mine got long, that hat doesn’t fit anymore.

I prefer fitted

But my head is an annoying size – slightly too large for 7 1/2, slightly too small for 7 5/8. I end up going with 7 5/8 because it’s better to have a hat that’s slightly too large than one that leaves a red line across my forehead.

Swell!

Sorry , am I egging you on?

Before I went to the last Giant/Blank game here I bought a couple of $3.99 beauties for myself and Vic Jr.

I am a member of The Hat Club , but what the hell. These is hard times.

As long as it’s black with an orange “SF” in the approxiately correct area…and it doesn’t have a propeller (or it’s removable)…and it repels beer…and it improves reception…and winning percentage…

I also found the white hat useful for summers in warmer climes. Of coarse it usually lasts a couple weeks before it’s the color of the surrounding ground but tell then they are cooler. Was partial to the hat that was like to old SF seals lid as well. But man its hard to go wrong with basic black with Orange on it. Even The Bungles make it look nice.

I buy fitted

But my size is sometimes difficult to find. I wear a size 8 (yeah I have a big head). I do find it at Dugout stores.

A McC newcomer but not outstanding.

I recently had to buy a new one, since I left my old one on a plane – mlb.com was backordered for my size, so I bought one through Amazon instead. I think it was also a couple dollars cheaper than through mlb.com.

You can still get

a wool fitted cap, with soft leather sweat band, at Cooperstown Ballcap. They make them to custom order, so you can also get things like a shorter brim, like they had back in the 1920’s and 30’s, if you want. Plus, it doesn’t cost much more than a fitted cap from New Era.

They have a liberal return policy. I have several from them and they are very nice.

Thanks for the suggestions

And yeah, I’ve read enough of these not to end with 75 75, plus it’s kinda annoying to me too.
I miss the old hats too, they’d fit perfect and form to your head; I’ve found the cheaper not fitted ones are most flexible.

Greatest hat I've ever had..

Stretchy “Warm-Up hat” with the script G on it. Loved that hat, had the bill curve just how I like it. But then the dog ate it.

  1. was actually my dad’s hat from when he was a coach on my little league team. Although we were the Giants, the hats didn’t have the logo on it, but did have black and orange text. And once the season was over I stole my dad’s hat since it said “coach” on it instead of my number. Even the sweat stains on this hat were curved to my head.

I suggest the "Franchise" hats by twins enterprises

they have the low crown – but don’t come in fitted sized, just S/M/L etc. But they are nice hats. I have like four of them – giants, undergrad school, grad school, and All-Star game. They sell them in the giants dugout store at the ballpark or online, check lids.com

By low crown..

What do you mean? I’ve got a very short top of head to ears distance, and it seems that most hats will hit my ears and make them stick out even more. Does that mean the hat is shorter? Anyone know where to get shorter hats?

Regular vs. "low profile"

The New Era Authentic caps have a high crown and tend to look tall and boxy. The low crown caps are more rounded on top and are closer to the shape of your head.

But how else will other people know what size hat I’m wearing?

There amass been plenty of articles written this spring about the stud shortstop Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum , as well as the fluid young outfielders and thirteen basemen Kevin Frandsen.

IF I TAKE OFF THE STICKER, PEOPLE WILL THINK I BOUGHT A CHEAP, FAKE HAT!!! STREET CRED!!!

The weird thing is, there are actually two separate stickers on the bills of those caps. Originally, there was just the gold circle that was meant to be removed. Then it became trendy to leave that gold sticker on, so they added the larger, outer sticker that I assume people still take off. Unfortunately, I’m not one of the cool kids, so I wouldn’t know.

by rightcenterfielder on Nov 17, 2008 11:46 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

technically

there is a reason behind this.

Initially, the stickers were left in place only on white or light colored hats to prevent stains from handling them. It’s a purely fashion choice for people who don’t wear their caps for the logo on the front. That’s fine, but the ridiculous spread is incredibly asinine.

that's not what the Franchise ones are like

the Franchise hats don’t have that stiff front (I believe it’s called a buckram). Here’s me with the franchise hat on.

It’s a flex-fit, which really feels good for those with large heads that seem to keep expanding.
