So I take it you want to give Blake like a 4 year 20 million dollar contract, Mike?

If he is signed, I’ll know who to blame.

Hey I just feel a guy should get fair market value for his mediocrity.

This article is typical of the stuff that goes back and forth. The Chron article made it sound like we were in on Texiera and this article basically says we’re not. Casey Blake with the Giants is the most discouraging rumor I have heard so far. All the others are either decent or good.

Shouldn’t building a bullpen through free agency be one of the last moves for a team ready to contend?
Don't think, it could only hurt the ballclub.

CC
Here in NY I am hearing all over the place that the Giants are very interested in CC Sabathia, no matter what is said. They are going to see what his top offer is and then see how much of a discount he will be willing to take to pitch in San Francisco. A story came out today that the union will push him to take the Yankees offer rather than a hometown discount, but it’s eventually going to be CC’s decision, not theirs.

Strike Now
If SF truly has Sabathia at the top of its FA list now would be the optimum time for the Giants to strike a deal with Sabathia. With the union wanting Sabathia to take the huge offer from Yankees, SF could swoop in and offer a California address and hitting opportunity. Each day is a lesser opportunity for the Giants, Sabean.

On the other hand, it might be smart for Sabathia to wait a little bit and let some other big FA set the market. That way he can take the smaller offer with little union pressure. The thing with the Yankee offer is that it was an opening offer, and it wasn’t a take it or leave it offer. They’re probably willing to add another 10 million or so and maybe even another year, so I don’t see how the Giants would be willing to come anywhere near it. If I were the Giants I would move in another direction. As much as I would love Sabathia, the Giants have some holes to fill, and signing Sabathia would break the bank. I doubt they would have any more money to spend after that, unless they’ve made a conscious decision to join the big boys.
