Pablo in the VWL

First-time poster here @ McCovey Chronicles...but a lifelong Giants fan (check out my profile).  You probably track these guys as closely or moreso than I do, but I wanted to ensure the community is aware that Pablo has not only stayed hot, but increased his hotness decisively in the VWL.  Hopefully, this link will work for you...

http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?n=Pablo%20Sandoval&pos=C&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=467055

...but if not, I'll sum it up here:

17 Games; 27-for-68 (a .397 BA); 5 HR; OPS of 1.150; and a 5:8 BB:K ratio.

I acknowledge this is a relatively small sample size, but I think it does prove that his hot start in the Majors was not a fluke -- and the 5 dingers show that the power is there to turn a bunch of those doubles into HRs -- he had 48 two-baggers this year across three levels.

I think our future is very bright, and I hope we don't dump any of our cornerstone prospects (Posey, Bumgarner, Alderson, Villalona) for a short-term rental...

Well, since this is my first attempt at a post here, I'll end it there...look forward to being active in this community. Go Giants!

Yea...

I’ve been checking on our guys throughout the winter season, and Pablo has put up impressive numbers. Hopefully he’s for real…and Burriss also hit his first AFL home run yesterday!

Frandsen has been tearing it up as well. That makes me happy. :)

So… he hits. 345 in 145 ABs in the majors, but the extra 68 in VENEZUELA proves that his hot start was not a fluke?

I'm confused...

…are you: A) arguing that he didn’t have anything to prove; B) arguing that Fall / Winter stats are meaningless [an argument with which I might agree…]; or C) just being argumentative for the sake of being argumentative?

My intent was primarily to get some chatter going on about “off season” action / stats and sustain some excitement about the Giants’ near future since the Giant’s recent past hasn’t given us much to be excited about (due respect & apologies to Mr. Cy Young).

Anyway, if that’s not the kind of thing you’re interested in, why waste even more of your time by taking the time to post a sarcastic comment?

Have a great day!

Well, it just sounded insane to me. Sample of 160 ABs in majors is considered flukish, but less than 1/2 as many in a weaker league makes it less flukish… For the record, even the sum (220 ABs) is a pretty small sample.

BUT really the answer is C, I am just being snarky. Oh, and I think Pabloito has a lot to prove still

VWL

Didn’t Jose Castillo lead the VWL in hitting last year? I do love Sandoval.

by dskjfd on Nov 12, 2008 4:40 PM PST   0 recs

point taken, in the eye :-)

I do get it…thanks…just trying to satisfy my appetite for Giants baseball in the offseason and things like VWL (and other ‘off-season’ leagues) are about all we have right now.

Thinking about a 25-man roster in the near future (projecting only guys currently in the system):
C: Molina
C/3B: Posey
C/1B: Sandoval
1B: Ishikawa
CI: Villalona
CI: Bowker
MI: Noonan
MI: Frandsen
MI: Gillaspie
MI: Burriss
OF: Lewis
OF: Winn
OF: Schierholz
OF: Kieschnick
Util: Velez
P1: Lincecum
P2: Cain
P3: Bumgarner
P4: Alderson
P5: Sanchez
P6: Pucetas
P7: Wilson
P8: Valdez
P9: Sadler
P10: Zito

THIS gets me fired up (and I’ve probably even missed someone obvious…and intentionally left out Rowand because I think he’s someone they should be shopping around.) Can I get an amen? Perhaps?

aw hell with it. Besides I'm home sick and the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is on.

Bad time to trade Rowand, coming off a down year and with so many years I think he’s basically worthless on the open market.

And the offense of the above team is still wretched, atlhough might bump up a couple slots to 22nd in MLB

FIRE BRIAN SABEAN

by zenbitz on Nov 13, 2008 11:02 AM PST to parent up   0 recs

snarkiness spoken here...

Seriously, no sweat. Agreed that the offense avilable from the above 25 isn’t exactly “fear-striking” — however, a starting 8 of something like…

1) Lewis
2) Shierholtz
3) Winn
4) Sandoval (it’s getting more obvious that I like this guy, eh?)
5) Villalona
6) Posey
7) Frandsen
8) Noonan

…could produce a fair number of runs on any given night. (Okay, maybe I didn’t do a good job of getting all 8 positions covered, but it’s close.) And this doesn’t include a couple guys that I’d be looking to get in the lineup as often as possible (e.g., Molina). I also don’t disagree that it might be a bad time to deal Rowand but — for exactly the same reasons you mention — it just might be. Look at the FLA-WAS deal that went down a couple days ago…let’s throw him out there as a “veteran leadership and a proven track record” guy and see who bites…nab us a couple B or C+ prospects in return. Plenty of GMs seem more than happy to overpay for name recognition and really awkward batting stances…actually I made that last part up…maybe an interesting research project.

What really gets me fired up about that 25 is the PITCHING. A lights-out first four…with all four having All-Star potential IMHO. And that bullpen has the potential for a ~3.00 ERA, again IMHBABO.

Play Ball.

Slightly OT

A bit amused about the commentators saying Blacks voted 70-30 for Prop 8 and they did it for the church/religious reasons. Believe the reason brothers voted “Yes” is because the opponents of Prop 8 compared this to civil rights movement and the brothers did not see the comparison.

Ok, I’m getting off my soapbox now.
