OT: SB Nation Nazi's @ Golden State of Mind
Yesterday I read an article on ESPN.com stating the Blazers backup PG, Sergio Rodriguez, had asked for a trade to play in a more uptempo system. Logically, this makes some sense for the Warriors because they have an up tempo system and are fairly week at the PG position.
So I went onto that site, something I don't do very often, to explain why I thought Sergio Rodriguez could be a perfect fit for the Warriors and posted a Fanpost going into why I think Rodriguez could be an ideal move. In the Fanpost I chose to hyperlink the Rodriguez report so as to avoid posts questioning the legitimacy of Rodriguez asking for a formal trade request.
Then I go back on that site today to find I have been "WARNED" for posting what should have been a FANSHOT in the FANPOST section and that I must move it immediately. To me, this seems ridiculous because
a) Who really cares? Links get posted in the fanpost section all the time on McCovey Chronicles, one of the premier SB nation blogs
b) I don't think my post qualifies as a FANSHOT. I wasn't sharing a link to let people know about a story, I was sharing a link to back up what I said in my post so it didn't come off as unsubtantiated BS (i.e. "I heard Cain might get traded for Yunel Escobar and Jason Heyward")
Maybe I'm overreacting, but I thought this was complete BS and was utterly stupid. I'm just glad Grant and the mods here don't worry about following the Fanpost/Fanshot rules to a T, even though I feel my FanPost belonged there.
Just had to rant is all
This FanPost is reader-generated, and it does not necessarily reflect the views of McCovey Chronicles. If the author uses filler to achieve the minimum word requirement, a moderator may edit the FanPost for his or her own amusement.

On GSOM:
I participate in Niners Nation, McC, and GSOM, and Gsom has a lot of lame rules. One time I was warned because I swore during a thread or a post.
Overall:
1. McC (Grant does a great job)
2. Niners Nation (Fooch does a great job)
3. Gsom

GSoM definitely has a different vibe from McC. I don’t want to bash a fellow Bay Area sports SB Nation site, but I don’t enjoy GSoM as much as this place. I lurk and have only posted there maybe twice. Maybe it’s the lack of Pokemon references.

GSOM feels less energetic than McC
The NBA is practically a year round sport now and it’s annoying to see the same crap sitting on the site w/o being updated for days on end…Grant should pass along the info to those GSOM heads…

GSOM is garbage
The guys that run the site do a decent job with game recaps, but that is all they bring to the table. The entire offseason went by with maybe 20 front page posts, of which very few had real content. Some of the posters are great, but there is a whole lot of garbage to sift through to find the occasional gem. Whereas I visit this site multiple times a day, I visit GSOM once or twice a week.
by W8ingForATitle on Nov 11, 2008 5:01 PM PST 0 recs
very true. I post there on occasion, but it is has been pretty weak there of late. A few of the people who comment there really know basketball, but for the most part the posters are idiots. The main posts are typically worthless, and you have to wade through a ton of trash to get to interesting or funny material in the fanposts.

It probably also hurts that basketball doesn’t lend itself to discussion the same way baseball does, especially for the internet community. Stats mean less than cohesion and don’t transfer well among rosters, trades are nearly impossible because of the ridiculous cap rules, and there isn’t a minor league system to digest in your spare time.

I’m not so sure about that.
While Baseball is far more stat friendly than basketball, the use of stats among many internet baseball fans is only an appearance of knowledge, as opposed to really knowing the game; the numbers may be easily available, but knowing what to do with them is another thing altogether. But the general point about transfer and cohesion stands.
Trades and trade speculation actually generate quite a bit of discussion in the internet basketball community, as many blogs will demonstrate. It isn’t that trades are impossible as much as it can be difficult for people to grasp the cap rules (the general trade rules are relatively easily, it is the secondary rules that are impacted that can be confusing).

I’ve had the same problem over there, they spend so much time stroking themselves it’s hard to talk bball over there.
The bases were drunk, and I painted the black with my best yakker. But blue squeezed me, and I went full. I came back with my heater, but the stick flares one the other way and the chalk flies for two bases. Three earnies! Next thing I know, skipper hooks me and I'm sipping suds with the clubby.

They're all kind of dicks
I agree. They only ever talk about stats and potential trades, which makes it hypocritical for them to warn you. They also don’t take jokes at all, which is kind of a necessary skill to have when rooting for any Bay Area team, because it’s hard to root for teams that never go anywhere. They all ripped on one guy for making a joke about Steven Jackson founding the “Jack1” foundation. Dude come on how can you not laugh at that.

AGREED!
I probably look at GSOM more that MCC and everyone just picks fights. It’s just a bunch of teenagers and bandwagon hoppers. Being a Warriors fan i’d still like to see the warriors crash and burn just to see those kids over there leave and become clippers fans.

all I’ll say is I saw your Rodriguez post and thought it seemed like the most interesting recent fanpost. (mostly because it was the only one of the 10 most recent that wasnt about Gerald Wallace) When I checked a day later it had vanished….that seems to happen quite a bit over there. Really terrible fanposts will sit and sit and then some mildly interesting ones come along just about the time the moderators decide to do their once a week check in and delete them all. They do do some nice post game write ups though and tony.psd’s drawings can be pretty funny.

*Shameless plug*
My site could always use more traffic (it could also use some more writing from myself, or anyone else if you’re interested). It’s in the sig.
/ shameless plug
GSoM is a tough read a lot of the time, and I’m not a big fan of their front page writing. In fact, I don’t like the front page writing of a lot of places, and as you can see from my comment ratio by SB Nation Blogs I actually post here a lot despite being an A’s fan because Grant is really, really entertaining.
I also think this site has more of a statistical leaning than Athletics Nation, or at least the prominent posters do, which I definitely prefer. I did post my first blog post to GSoM and it was decently received, though they didn’t seem to be nearly interested in statistics in general.
