Giants trying to dump Zito?
Yeah, this isn't particularly "news", but it's interesting.
Also, we want a right fielder? Really?

Did you try telling her you have a website? Chicks dig that.
My current Interwebs obsession is pretty awesome. Also, my website is called ChatterBalks Dot Com. It's not being updated right now. Hope for more at your own risk.
This guy has a cooking blog, or so he says

key word “trying”
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.

Real question: how much of Zito’s remaining contract would you be willing to eat in order to move him off the team? My answer: 60%

“They’re trying to give him away,” said an official of one team that had spoken to the Giants. “I think they would eat as much money as it would take to get rid of him.”
If this were true, they would just DFA him (non-accidentally).

About time
How much is a 3rd/4th starter worth? 5yrs/$35M – so the Giants eat $65M. Hey, our government is eating billions, the Giants can eat millions. Please waive the no trade clause, Albatross.
Free agent right fielder = the new free agent center fielder

Maybe the Giants should ask for a Government bailout
They could ask them for remaining portion of Zito’s contract and then waive him.
A McC newcomer but not outstanding.
Maybe the Giants
could sell the remaining portion of Zito’s contract as a Financial Derivative.
Hey, it worked for Wall Street…..oh yeah, it didn’t .My adopted son Matt Downs. Lost in the wilderness of mediocrity.
Would you trade Matt Cain and Barry Zito for C.C.?
With Buster Olney’s article and all, I say we sign C.C. for let’s say, 6/140 mil with option year, then flip Cain and Zito’s contract (we eat half, like 50 mil) to one of those two-pitcher starved teams like the Yanks, Cards, Brews, Astros, Rangers to fill our many holes in the infield. If we get rid of Zito, that’s like getting C.C. at a half-price discount. Of course we lose Cain, but what’s less painful to watch for the next few years: Zito and Cain (losing 1-0 games) or C.C. and Pucetas/Lowry/Prior and shiny new infielder?
This is to illustrate a point of a broader note. I think Beane isn’t totally nuts for trading for Holliday. The game is such that young impact players are being locked up long term and more teams have FA money to spend so it’s getting tougher and tougher to land impact players. If you have a chance at getting one, better jump on it. The problem with the Giants is that they give impact money to mediocre players. Anyway, the point is that getting C.C. might seem crazy given Zito’s contract. But it gives the flexibility of wheelin and dealin. If no one’s willing to take Cain and Zito’s contract in 2008, then there’s worse things than for the Giants to go into 2009 with the best rotation in the league. Even if we fall out of contention, if Cain improves (as well he should), and in the name of Allah, Zito gets better (miracles can happen), a bunch of teams would be lining up to trade for our pitching at the trade deadline. Even if we can’t move Zito, we can always move C.C. Say the Yanks are 2 games back of the Sox, can you imagine the prospect load we can get for C.C.?
Uribe to Thompson to Clark: Don't tinker ever with chance
So you're saying....
that we should basically GIVE away Matt Cain so that we can get rid of Zito’s contract, and then replace Zito’s contract with an even BIGGER one for C.C. Sabathia? No team is going to take Zito’s contract, and give us back top-level talent, even if Matt Cain is in the deal.
I think my head just exploded. Yep.
