OT: Blackberry Bold or iPhone?

Lame topic, I know, but I figured it's better than another "let's just try to take the 2008 Brewers and turn them into the 2009 Giants" thread.

I realize this might be even more stupid because the Blackberry Bold is not out yet, but does anyone have an opinion on this matter? The iPhone is a pretty slick device, but I've read some amazing things about the Blackberry Bold, and there is noted business advantage to Blackberry e-mail.

Is anyone here facing a similar dilemma between the devices? Any thoughts or opinions?

I'm currently rocking a two-year-old Samsung POS, so I don't know how much help I am

I’m more of the, I want my phone to make calls and store contacts, kind of person so I’m not clamoring for an iPhone. I’d say Blackberry.

I support Roger Kieschnick in his quest to becoming the best Kieschnick ever to play professional baseball.

Only downfall I've heard so far of the Bold

Is no WiFi. Other than that, it looks slick, and it not being an Apple product would make me lean towards it before teh iPhone. That being said, I wouldn’t pay for either because a phone is a device to make and receive phone calls. I get a free one every two years from AT&T and that’s good enough for me.

I think it depends on your taste and what your usage will consist of.

I’m not a big fan of Blackberry, but I would get it if your main use was for business calls and e-mails.

iPhone 3G is an entertainment machine and I love Safari on it. You can actually connect to different e-mail accounts and my phone is hooked up to my work’s Outlook Exchange. You can connect to WI-Fi on it and it will make your browsing 10x faster. The Apps are fun and can be useful. Where else can you get to look at random LOLCats by touching a button? Also, for geekness I have my lightsaber and graphic calculator Apps for sh*ts.
Only annoying thing about it is to make sure you have good dexterity when typing on the touch QWERTY board.

I dunno about a touch QWERTY...

I’ve for the most part hated all touch keyboards, never being able to get good speed or accuracy out of them. I’d expect at least one.

Iphone unless you need BB for work email. I’d have an iPhone (or maybe the new Astroid) if I didn’t have to have a BB for work. Jerks won’t enable iPhone or Windows Mobile email support, so I’m stuck with a crippled BB.

Love My Blackberry...

Never owned an iPhone. The ’touch screen" kind of worries me.

Not to say I am an Apple hater. I use multiple platforms for different stuff. Thinkpad T61P (WInXP Pro for work), Thinkpad T41 (Ubuntu Linux just to get comfortable with the OS), Mac G4 Digital Audio( MDD 1.4Ghz upgrade, OSX 10.4.3 music and web apps). Use the tool that works for you.

Rockin an 8820 with WiFi and 3G currently. The thing I absolutley love about my crackberry is the multiple mail functions. I’ve got 5 email accounts that “push” right to my phone. Also, the new Blackberry OS 4.5 changes the browser and mail functions to act just like your standard PC desktop. would love to have a “Bold”, but Mrs. NVSFG gets a little upset when I drop half a grand on a phone :-)

Still rocking the Samsung x427m

but after 5 years of service it’s about time to retire this bad boy

Personally I’m leaning towards the iPhone. My gf has one and the thing is pretty amazing. Plus I’m a mac user and the ability to control my itunes through my phone is pretty sweet.

I'm partial to the BagPhone

which is a knapsack conataining a primitive cell, and a bulky 10-pound battery.

I last used it in 1994, when I was living in the jungle on Molokai.

I thought the BagPhone was a direct emergency line that the President has to Andrew Baggarly.

I think they prefer to be called 'Berry of Color,' you racists.

I have had a BB for a few months now. I have liked having email capability more than I thought I would— for instance, I have been able to take a couple short trips without taking my laptop, as I would only have needed that for email.

I detest-hate-loathe the crappy calendar so-called function on it. First, I hate Outlook; I am a Palm guy. Second, the “application” on the phone itself is primitive, clunky, not graphically helpful— unlike a Palm. So I still have my Palm, but I like having the email capability on the phone. And the sound quality on the BB is fine, not great, nor horrible.

The iPhone is really neat.

And yeah it’s neat.

It has a lot of neat little things about it that make it really fun. All kinds of cool gimmicky apps that let you amuse yourself for hours on end.

It’s probably neater than the alternatives out there.

Once you get beyond the neatness however, I have yet to identify a single function that the iPhone has that really makes it “better” than the alternatives – ie more useful. G3/wifi internet, GPS, music, Etc – there are plenty of other phones out there that do these things as well or better than the iPhone.

I also dislike the touchscreen keyboard.

If I had ATT, I would consider an iPhone as it seems like it does the things I need a phone to do pretty well. However, the “neatness” of the iPhone is certainly not sufficient to get me to switch from Verizon. I already have a phone w/ Verizon that does those things, too.

I’d have an iPhone if my work didn’t give me a BB to use for free.

neat gimmicky apps = even more time not doing work than usual

Get the iPhone...

I don’t even like Apple but I just love those ‘neat gimmicky apps’!

But seriously, there are also some pretty useful apps out there in the iPhone’s App Store. For school alone its pretty useful having an (offline) dictionary, unit converter, and graphing calculator all in one device. In fact, I’m using it as my “TV Guide” at this very moment. Did I mention it also doubles as a freaking Lightsaber

iPhone

I am passionately in love with my iPhone; we make sweet love every night, and my wife is very jealous.

Ahem.

It actually is a fabulous gadget—the e-mail and keyboard work well enough to be very useful for work, while the internet and ipod make it lots of fun, too. Actually, I suppose it’s like a mullet in that respect—business in front, party in the back. Or something.

its all about the STORM a coming

The Bold is already out. I assume you are talking about the Storm that will probably be coming out sometime in November but exclusively for Verizon for a while. The Storm will be a touch screen exactly the same size as the iPhone with the benefit of basically not being an Apple product. Its main feature is its clickable sceen that actually makes a physical click when you touch it. That way there is “touching” and “clicking” two ways of manipulating the UI. My Verizon contract is up in 10 days and I’m going to get it. Don’t just take my word for it though:

Once I got my new...

iPhone, my life changed. This thing is freaking incredible. So much power at your fingertips with so much ease. I have big fingers and have trouble typing on the blackberry style phones with those dinky keyboards. The pop-up keyboard for the iPhone makes it so easy to write text, email etc. Not to mention the screen is much bigger.

With the tidal wave of apps that are out, the iPhone is light-years ahead of any other phone. I have downloaded about 30 apps — all for FREE. And I use most of them daily. Plus there are some sweet apps for about $1. There are tons of awesome programmers working on the next wave of sweet apps.

I used to dog apple products my whole life. I thought apples were for people that didn’t know how to use computers. And over time I watched as apple came out with quality product after quality product. I bought an iPod shuffle to work out. But once I got the iPhone it changed my whole view on apple.

The thing I was most concerned about when I got the phone was AT&T’s service. I previously had att years ago and I loved the day that I switched over to verizon. But i’ve had this iPhone for 3 months now and I have had virtually zero problems. So don’t let the haters scare you. Get the iPhone.

I think I pulled my swagger muscle...

3G issues

So did they fix the 3G issues? I know that especially the new version of the iPhone was having trouble if you left an area where you had 3G it would drop to the slower EDGE network. Then once you had 3G available again it wouldn’t pick it up automatically. Basically you had to keep manually configuring the connection. I don’t remember seeing anything that Apple fixed it since most people didn’t even notice they were paying for a 3G network phone and getting 1/3 the connection speed. That and the exploding batteries….. turned me off.
