Giants Attendance 2008
I heard recently on the Brian Sabean show that the payroll will not rise very much next year. This concerns me that maybe the Giants were happy enough almost getting to 3 million fans this year and dropped their payroll to like 78 million. I think it ended up around 90 mill with all the outstanding contracts but how can they expect to get some big bats if they will not raise the payroll .
Does anyone know how much money is commited for next year? I have to make a commitment on my tickets for next year with my friend and I gave the Giants a pass this year to find out about the young guys. Next year I would like a little bang for my buck especially with the stock market in the toilet. I would like to compete next year at least for the division.
I know everyone is going to feel the pinch but will the Giants throw their fans a bone this year? Ninety four jacks is unaceceptable for a SF team. I hope they pony up a little money or will we just get what comes out of the back end of the horse.
The Nuekom and Sabean era has begun; lets hope they think of the fans this year.

I doubt the Giants will be in contention this year. Wait until 2010

If it’s an increase in HRs you’re looking for, just keeping the current squad on the field will likely increase the HR totals for the 09 season. Plus, Giants fans should know that in the phone book ballpark, triples are almost synonymous with HRs, especially given that the current team has a fair amount of speedy players and decent base runners.

oh, i get it, it doesn’t matter if the players or team is actually good, as long as they have the appearance of being good

I hereby denounce this line of reasoning.
The Giants have some promising young players, and can gain a lot, as an organization, by letting them play next year.
Declaring “I ain’t gonna go unless they spends the MONIE$$$” is exactly the sort of thing makes teams just spend money for the sake of showing their commitment to the fans. That’s how the Brewers end up paying Jeff Suppan’s rent and how we end up with Barry Zito.
F*ck that noise. I want to see Pablo Sandoval and Travis Ishikawa play. If you can’t be bothered to go to the park unless someone famous is playing for your team, then you need to man up.

We’re all for good baseball discussion here on McCovey Chronicles, but the suggestions on the majority of your Fanposts have been either ridiculous or unrealistic. Stuff like moving in the fences and trading for Jimmy Rollins and Jorge Cantu aren’t very good ways to improve this team. This Fanpost isn’t bad, but saying that your Fanposts are the only good Fanposts is pretty arrogant of you. If you’ve been reading this site for the past season, you’d find that many people do make intelligent posts that foster good discussions. It might not seem like it at the moment, but that’s because we’re in that weird period between the end of the regular season and the beginning of the offseason where nothing really happens with the Giants. Give it some time, and we’ll revert back to the usual baseball nerdery we normally see around here. All I ask is for you to give a little more thought into your Fanposts and to not just post whatever your mind is pondering at the moment.

Why is Jimmy Rollins a bad move? Cantu hit 29 jacks and almost 100 rbi’s. Both of these moves would impirove the team.

by TakeAGiantStepNGo on Oct 8, 2008 10:28 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Cantu’s power numbers are very inconsistent. That’s not necessarily the type of hitter that would flourish in AT&T Park.
Rollins is getting older and will cost more money than he’s worth to the team.

It’s also just not the type of move that teams tend to make.
Contending teams don’t just create roster holes in their infield in exchange for similarly priced player packages.
Also, Jorge Cantu has sucked offensively for 2 of the last 4 years, and sucked defensively for four of them.

Reasons why nobody is taking your posts seriously
1) You generally do not engage in the discussion after posting your fanpost.
2) You have posted a lot of them and none of them have really been good ideas. And one or two have been downright bad ideas. This one, for instance, doesn’t really say much of anything at all. Basically you said, I hope they pay monies for teh starz cyuz I want teh starzzz.
3) We’re dicks
4) As Natto said, this isn’t the best time for many of us to be talking about baseball. It will pick up again. And die down again. And so on. In the meantime, we will mock and use sarcasm and joke and be silly an awful lot.
I think one thing you should realize is that this place is a great place to talk about baseball (and food and books and movies and…). But you seem to view it as a blogspot or something, where it’s all about posting fanposts (and, apparently, then just leaving them). This place is less about posting and more about the community. It’s not the fanposts (or Grant posts, even) that hold the most value. It’s the discussion after the fanposts.
I realize it looks like we are elitist jerks, sometimes. And that is probably true, to a degree. But we are also quite open to new posters, too. I was a new poster at one time. As was everyone here.
I am impressed that you stuck around, even if it finally came with hurt feelings and a pouty post. I would just recommend making less fan posts and making more discussion posts. Talk to us or with us, not at us.

Also
Just to further my point. A little bit further down the fanposts section there is a post that is approaching 300 posts. It was started by a member who has a shaky reputation but who still understands what this community is about. There is a lot of fantastic conversation going on in there; all of which is related directly to Giants baseball. You are no where to be found.
