Scott Ostler is stealing terrible ideas from MCC
Either that or he's the one who keeps posting terrible ideas as fanposts and then ignoring us when we make fun of him.

What's wrong with moving in the fences?
I think that’s not a horrible idea. Move in the fences, and try to build up our power, and you’re attacking the problem on two fronts. Sure, your pitching suffers a little, but lack of offense is the far bigger problem right now.

Flyball pitching staff.
Travis Denker can hit a little. That's why I drive his bus. Not much about baseball here .

To add to that our INF defense is not that good. I think it will better next year but still it currently not that much better then our power game on offense.

But moving in the fences doesn't make the offense better
Catcher are base running. Hitters are offense.

Sometimes I wonder if the people who want to move the fences in know that they’ll stay in when the other team hits.
..so allow me to present Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain as two sweet, sweet bottles of warming hooch.

Remember 2000-2003? We’ve had premier hitting lineups succeed in this ballpark, the only difference is a lack of talent.

proposal is retarded because
You don’t want to create a homer haven, but you want a fair ballpark. Otherwise, you scare off free-agent sluggers and you put pressure on your own pitchers.
No you don’t. If you move the fences in then by definition you are putting more pressure on your pitchers. They simply aren’t in as tough a situation now as they would be if the fences were closer. There is absolutely no way to justify the sentence Ostler wrote.
"he walked 18; new league record! Struck out 18, another new league record! He also hit the sportswriter, the PA announcer, the bull mascot twice..."

Maybe we can get Scott Ostler and Bruce Jenkins into a batters vs. pitchers cage match. Keep the Chron busy for a while.

I knew it
"While conservatives tell you 'leave things alone and no one will lose,' and liberals tell you 'interfere a lot and no one will lose,' baseball says 'someone will lose.' Not only says it - but insists upon it! ... Democracy is lovely, but baseball's more mature." BVCE supports SF Dugout and Manny Burriss.

It's funny
Because, for a while there, I thought E was Ray Ratto. Then I realized that E is much smarter than Ratto.

I do too. He got angry a lot.

No, this is a great idea. I think we should also eliminate foul territory altogether by bringing the seats in, and then counter the negative effects on our pitching from both of the previous moves by moving the mound in. Of course, we’d have to move the cove in, too, for more exciting exciting splash hits, and we should probably move the wind out for good measure. While we’re at it, we should move me in there, too. As long as there’s a bed and some free food.

And why does it have to be a cove? Why can’t it be a river or a lake? Why not McCovey Creek? If we ever want to see a Giants splash hit again we’re gonna have to put a couple bodies of water in shallow right field.

Bonus, we could use the outfield as a pitch & put in the offseason.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. Moving the fences in doesn’t affect the quality of the team. In fact, I think there’s something to be said for having a slight pitcher’s park. It helps our pitchers thrower fewer pitches per inning, perhaps keeping them healthier.
And China Basin Park/Mays Field isn’t extreme anyway.
