Will the Giants make a play for Zimmerman?

I believe Ryan Zimmerman is arbitration eligible this year. Will the Nationals deal him after a injury filled year? Are the Giants interested? He would fit nicely in the 3 hole in the Giants lineup. I liked the fact that he came out before the first game this year and said being mediocre won't cut it anymore for him and his team.

I like Zimmerman but what would it take to get him away from Washington? Would they go for Sanchez?

This FanPost is reader-generated, and it does not necessarily reflect the views of McCovey Chronicles. If the author uses filler to achieve the minimum word requirement, a moderator may edit the FanPost for his or her own amusement.

Hmmm

Would you trade a 24 year old 3rd baseman who hits 20 homeruns, has a 800 OPS and plays at worst a solid defense?

We should trade Lowry for a power bat.

I hate bats

We had three bats get into our house over the course of seven months a while back. You really haven’t lived until you’ve woken in the middle of the night because of the bat flapping around your room.

In all seriousness...

I’d like to see the moderators start banning people or somehow revoking their FanPosting privileges if they meet the following criteria:

1) Repeated FanPosts involving ridiculous trades, especially if the trade is discussed in the topic of 4 other FanPosts that are still on the front page (coughCainforFieldercough).

2) A pattern of just dropping a FanPost and walking away from the thread, never to be seen again until their next retarded FanPost. I’m pretty sure this is the definition of a troll — this guy is clearly either doing this on purpose to stir up shit, or else it’s just complete literary masturbation (or rosterbation) — either way, anyone who does this is a tool who doesn’t deserve posting privileges.

3) Says “I’m a long time lurker” yet has clearly never read a thread or comments on this site. Listen, assholes — I am a long time lurker, and you’re no John F. Kennedy. Err, wait. But seriously, I just don’t understand these people who are like “I’m a unique snowflake because my mommy told me I was, and my opinion MUST BE HEARD AND RESPECTED, despite the fact that I’m not going to bother hearing/reading anyone else’s opinion before I post my half-baked thread proposal”.

It makes me sad that this site has already degenerated to this and we’re like 3 days into the postseason. If this keeps up, I will be finding other ways to procrastinate from doing work and stuff (or god forbid, I may actually have to do work).

I should add that a lot of this would be solved if SBN added a few features:

1) The ability to add people to an “ignore” list.

2) The ability to rate posts down, in conjunction with users being able to set filters so that we can effectively ignore posts below a certain rating. Make the default setting be to not filter, so that new folks can still see what has already been beaten into the ground.

why so angry about lousy fanposts?? If you see it’s a ridiculous trade or topic, don’t read it or don’t comment on it. I dislike all trade proposals that are fan suggested, because even if they make perfect sense for both sides, they’re not going to happen. I only like to discuss trade rumors that are mentioned in the media as something that the GM’s are actually discussing. However, if others want to suggest Swisher for Rowand, or Cain for anybody, then let them talk about it all they want. I’ll be watching Dexter or True Blood or some other garbage that gets me through the offseason.

From my perspective, you kind of answered your own question. The thing I love about this site (besides Grant’s writing, of course) is the community of posters that has developed here. I don’t want the posters who are actually smart, funny, and insightful to be driven to go do something else with their time because they are being drowned out by people who can’t even be bothered to read/comment on the reactions to their own fanposts.

I’m afraid there is a vicious cycle going on here. People post repetitive fanposts, either because they don’t know that something has been beaten to death, or they don’t care (to be clear, it’s the latter I have a problem with, and again, I think a good indicator of this is the people who don’t even post in their own threads). The increased volume of fanposts means that fanposts get pushed off the front page faster, meaning that even well-intentioned new people won’t see the other 6 Cain for Fielder posts, and will think that their idea is original. Then the “old school” people get pissed at them, and either ridicule them so much that they never come back, or the “old school” people just decide to visit the site less. Either way, it’s a negative for the quality of the community, and a step closer to my biggest fear for this site, which is that it starts looking more and more like the typical fanboyish team blog and/or the comments section at the bottom of most online newspaper articles.

I don’t mind the mods banning people if they use good judgment, but …

Every few months (once a year?) people get all irritated about all the fanposts and say the site is going downhill. I don’t think there’s any reason to get all bent out of shape about it. I just skim through or ignore the fanposts that aren’t interesting.

I agree that the repetitive posts can be annoying, but it’s not worth worrying about.

he made a good point however, about the good fan posts being forced off the board if all the recent fanposts are about dopey trades. I guess the solution would be to make better use of the recommended fanpost section. Instead of containing the best fanposts of the last few days, it winds up getting all filled up with daily minor league reports. While I look forward to reading those reports on a daily basis, only the most recent one should be there.

This

My only real problem with the “dumb” fanposts is that they push good ones off the page.

So when I log in to check up on an interesting discussion about something meaningful (At least, in the baseball world) It’s not there because there are 5 trade matt cain for X threads instead.

That gets annoying. Often times a debate or discussion gets ended prematurely because it gets pushed off the page

Also, when someone (like myself) takes a long time to write an in depth fanpost about something and it gets pushed off the page in a few hours because 4 or 5 people throw up stream of conciousness sub 75 word trade Matt Cain fanposts with little regard for the rest of the community.

That is also annoying.

IMO, a fanpost is a contribution. I may not have the best fanposts out there, but I do put a considerable amount of time and effort into writing them because I don’t want to waste everyones time with something premature and incoherent. I do that because I respect this community.

I guess I feel that others should, as well.

URBAN MYTH!

An urban legend arose that Elliot died choking on a ham sandwich. Speaking to the press shortly after her body was discovered, the police noted that a partly eaten sandwich had been found in her room and speculated that she may have choked while eating it. When the coroner’s autopsy was performed, no food was found in her trachea and the cause of death was determined to have been heart failure and that she had died in her sleep. But by then, the specious story was already making the rounds and the real cause of death was rarely discussed. Elliot died in the same flat, No.12 at 9 Curzon Place, Mayfair that The Who drummer Keith Moon would die in, a little over four years later.

Also:
I liked the fact that he came out before the first game this year and said being mediocre won’t cut it anymore for him and his team.

Which he promptly followed up with a .283/.333/.442 season full of 102 OPS+ mediocrity.

On the plus side, his team’s season cannot fairly be described as mediocre.

not that it will matter

and I know people who are on here a lot get tired of discussing the same topics, but maybe it would be more productive to discuss why this wouldn’t be a good idea, rather than simply bash the author for writing it in the first place. Some people might not be on here a lot spending the time to read all the different fanposts that may or may not have included the same topic.

I’m not saying I agree with this guy, but Zimmerman was once a really good player IIRC, and maybe there’s some validity to asking if he might be someone worth targeting. I for one would love to hear some details about why you think he’s not. Maybe this was in another thread – so link to that.

I just feel like the insults and shit talking are just as bad as the superfluous fanposts.

The truth is

It’s not even a bad idea. If Zimmerman truly were available, I would support going after him.

It is the fact that this particular poster has had a flurry of irrational and retarded trade fanposts since the season ended that has triggered this response.

The guy has more fanposts than comments – which is an indicator of not really being willing to “play by the rules”

But if you think that it’s a good idea, then what does it matter? Who cares how many comments he has? Why not just discuss the trade?

..so allow me to present Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain as two sweet, sweet bottles of warming hooch.

Why would a bad team like the Nationals trade their best young star?? That’s why this topic is a waste of time. Trading for Albert Pujols would also be a good idea, but it’s not like it’s going to happen. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if other team’s fans are putting together packages right now that would get them Tim Lincecum.

Reportedly, the Marlins have re-signed Wes Helms to a 2-year deal. There goes my #1 choice for third base!

Does Grant have the power to trade our annoying fan posters for other teams’ fan posters? Maybe we can get rid of the guy whose nickname is a movement cleverly integrating the name of his favorite team for a Dodgers fan poster? Then when he posts, we can ignore it and say, hey, that’s just the jackass from the Dodgers, or we could ridicule him into submission. Any thoughts?
