OT: The Hyundai Genesis
So through the month of October, I've been bombarded by ads when I forget to use the DVR, and I've been mesmorized by Jeff Bridge's voice as he tells me about the Hyundai Genesis, and how it will smoke a porsche boxter in a 0-60, and how it's on par with a 5 series BMW, 4.6 Liter V-8, 375HP, etc. and all for under thirty grand. Needless to say that I'm interested in finding out more, but have yet to take a test drive. I'm not really in the market for a car, but like the Nissan GT-R, and other cars before it (I.E. my 3.2L Type S Acura CL), I want to know more. Does anyone own this and if so what's your opinion? If nobody owns one, has anyone given it a test drive? Am I strange for being excited by a Korean car?

Who really needs to do 0 - 60 that fast?
OK . the availability is the appeal – but this just goes along with the availability of offshore oil in the ANWR – we need to learn to control our idiot tendencies.
Obviously a perceivedly large portion of the spending public can’t . hence the ad. I just feel insulted.

Who needs to go 0-60 that fast?
It’s my experience that there are two appropriate responses to “speed humps” on normal streets:
1) Buy a car with a sturdy enough suspension to take them at speed (essentially a non-sissified truck or SUV)
2) Buy a car that can accelerate back to 35 MPH (the correct speed by common custom for a school zone) as fast as possible
Only through these forms of grass-roots resistance can we hope to end the tyranny of whiny safety fascists in our time.

As an American it’s my right to have idiotic tendencies. That being said, until they outlaw powerful cars I’ll have an unhealthy obsession with them. I’m the asshole who wishes he were a professional rally car driver every time I drive on Lincoln.

Huh?
Each of us with a “Lincoln” in his/her local geog is going to have a different take on that.
Here in PhxAz there’s a Lincoln Drive that cuts through Paradise Valley…and is a favorite for police speed enforcement camera vans. Go Fangio!

I've seen the clever marketing too, but it is still a Hyundai...
If i was spending $28k on a car I’d look at an ‘02-’05 M3. Those are getting drastically affordable all of a sudden. You should go test drive the Genesis and write a review. You’ve got a lot of time until spring training…

A few years ago, they came out with a car comparing to the Avalon or that type of luxury Sedan. I worked for a rental car company at the time, so I got to drive it quite frequently. One thing I found about all Hyundai cars including the supposed luxury ones (can’t remember the name of the model), they have very uncomfortable, hard seats in them. I couldn’t imagine driving a long distance in one of them because of this. Other than that, they were alright.

Hubby and I drove it
(First time I’ve actually posted here, wow.)
For a car that costs that much, they could have made the ride a LOT smoother. I rode in the backseat during the test drive, and I was feeling pretty nauseous by the time it was over, and I NEVER get sick. It was very bouncy and that was definitely the main thing I remembered.
The car inside looked fine, but for us it was not worth the price tag with that ride.

I had one of those
when I was a “youngster” (17). To tell you how long ago that was, I took it and my girl to the Premier of Star Wars( the First One) .
It was ’68 MG-B. Bought it from a guy that was in the process of turning it into an SCCA roadster. Paid 500 bucks, finished the restoration, paint etc.
It was a blast to drive. Drove it all summer back and forth to the beach. Then winter came. Roof leaked, heater was a problem, and like most British cars, had electrical problems when it rained. Still kind of miss that car :-)

HAHA..
My dad bought one ( a ‘68 perhaps, light blue, was it your PYT?) Probably around 1990 when he bought it. Got it for $500 and had to rent a trailer to pick it up because it didn’t start. Got it home, drove it off the trailer. Not because he knew what he was doing, just because the car was that finiky. It sat in the garage for 80% of the time he wanted to drive it because it still wouldn’t start. But those times it did run taking it around the block was fun.
