McUniwatch
So, I was watching the Phils/Brewers game and I really was digging Philly's unis. They have a similar cream color and a great old fashioned feel. Am I alone on this or are they some really sweet unis?
Also, this can bring up the discussion which team has your favorite jerseys in the majors besides the Giants? Any of them that are down right ugly?
Let's be honest, its the offseason for the Giants, so who really cares if this is a fanpost?

it's a good look
but I’m not a fan of the two-tone blue hat. i think they’d be better off going with a red cap. The blue looks fine as an accent, but out of place as the main hat color.

Now look at it with a red helmet, better IMHO: Pic

I actually like it with the blue cap
Gives it a cooler (as in not as warm) feel. I was really liking them as I watched the game, but I thought to myself, “Hey, we did it first, thus ours are better”

yup
hate two tone caps on any MLB uni. It’s fine for the Central Florida Gatoreaters of the unaffliated Mid South Atlantic Independent league, but this is the bigs for gods sake. Two unis per team, one hat color with the team logo. And a big thanks to all the teams that abide by this (Yanks, BoSox, Giants, etc) and a big FU to the teams that have 35 different uniform combos (A’s, D-Backs, Rangers, etc)

I have realized that I love this more out of nostalgia than anything else. Orange is really an accent color and works best when it’s used sparingly.

I really like the Brewers’ re-designed uniforms. The dark blue and the gold works together very well. The Mariners have a good design, too. It’s kind of a balance between the newer uniform designs like the Diamondbacks where there’s color and emphasis on a logo/theme, and just a classic, clean design. I like the uniforms that don’t have a ton going on (in baseball, anyway) but I can appreciate the uniforms that aim to set themselves apart at the same time.
Now for an NFL jersey, and yes, I am going even more OT here, I just really like the Jaguars’ teal jersey, with the gold and black trim and the cats on the sleeves: http://dsp.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/p3870749p275w.jpg I’m okay with NFL jerseys and NHL sweaters having more stuff going on visually. I don’t know why.

I really like the Phillies special alternate uniform that they have been wearing this year. They should ditch their awful red pinstripes and wear it full time. The Indians did the same this year, an old fashioned alternate that was cream based with “INDIANS” in in arched block print and a block C on the cap. I really dug that one, too.
If the Mets wanted to get on my good side, they would drop the 101 alternates they have and adopt a creme based “Mets” script with no pinstripes, no names on the back, no monkey business for home, and a plain, arched block “NEW YORK” in blue and orange on the grey away unis. No more black, Mets!
The Cardinals should pick up a creme olde-timey throwback uniform too. They would look good in it, and it fits their franchise. I don’t know why they didn’t do this when they moved. The Twins should go back to a Sixties look with moving into their new digs too, at least for the first couple of seasons, like “hey, we’re playing outside again” sort of thing, the novelty may be lost on anyone younger than forty, but I think Minneapolis wold be someplace that would dig it.
San Diego just needs to give up.

ditch the black
the guy who writes Uni Watch had a Ditch the Black campaign awhile back, but the website appears to be gone. If you’re interested in Uni Design I highly recommend that blog… lots of good stuff, info on uni changes and updates. special designs, patches, memorials, etc etc etc. All the goings on are covered.

Another site for baseball uniform nerdery:
The Hall of Fame has a database of baseball uniforms going back to 1900. You can search by team or by year. Alternate uniforms aren’t included, and it’s probably not 100% accurate, but it is a good start if you want to know how a team’s look has progressed.
I propose the Giants break out these unis again when a World Series title finally comes to San Francisco:

Massive inferiority complex aside, the A’s have some decent uniforms. They stand out because they are the only team in the league whose predominant color is not red, blue, or black.
There are still problems of course:
1. The softball jersey alternates (also, “let’s wear black, just because” set, WTF?), worn way too often.
2. The white shoes: They are unique, but they only seem to work well with the home uniform, and that’s with the high socks. Otherwise, the white shoe/plain pants combo make them look like they’re wearing painters pants at home or gray sweat pants on the road.

I don’t really like any jerseys that don’t match the pants, save that for batting practice or spring training.
The Mets and the A’s should be contracted out of baseball for wearing those black abominations though.

Some teams go way overboard with them to the point where they are no longer the “alternate”, they are just the uniform. They sometimes look okay on the road, but at home they tend to look awful.

There is a reason
that most teams wear the predominant red, blue or black; that green is just butt-ugly. Maybe if they were green and black, it would look okay, but the green and yellow combination is atrocious. I put the A’s at the top of worst MLB uni’s list.

I like the Phillies one, I just think they should be required to wear the stirrups with the Liberty Bell – gorgeous
I don’t mind alternate jerseys if you wear them once a week. The Giants black one was a nice change of pace on Friday nights. – I HATEEEEEEE when both teams are wearing their alts in the same game. Rangers and A’s do this all the time.
Speaking of the A’s – I hate the white shoes with some serious passion. At home, they look okay but on the road when they have the gray uniform with green writing and yellow trim – there is no reason for them to be wearing WHITE shoes. Looks awful.
Best uniforms in baseball – Tigers home uni and Giants road uni
- Yankees have the best look but they get too much attention
Keeping up the OT – I like Jags unis too – they make that scheme work but the best is the Bears and Colts. Don’t fix it if ain’t broken
Also, KingOfDucks – I’m glad you posted this because of all people with uni knowledge, it has to be someone from UofO – those unis the Ducks wore against Boise – looks like Jager on a Sunday morning after a rough night

A's white shoes
are a disaster with the gray uni. I’ve always hated that. And if they’re going to wear black (which they shouldn’t because it’s not one of their colors) I liked the old black alt with the green better than the new one with yellow. that one SUCKS. And I hate that the A’s wear alts so much because their regular home and road sets (white shoes aside) are really nice and underrated.

also agree
about the old giants black alts. I didn’t mind those because they were worn rarely and because black is one of the giants regular main colors. The mets? no black please. the a’s? no black please. The BLUE jays, give me a break. even the DBacks shouldn’t be wearing black.

I hate the Yankees
but I think they have the best unis; the interlocked NY is a great logo, as is the interlocked SF. I like traditional uniforms; please no solid alternate tops. The Indians really improved their unis a lot. The block C on the cap is much better than Chief Wahoo. I have to admit also that I like the red numeral on the front of the Dodgers white and blue uni.
