Copeland, the Giants' other AFL hitter, did not start but did get one plate appearance. The Astros' Johnson had two of the Scorpions' five hits. The Marlins' Raynor, who hit .312/.402/.489 in the generally pitcher-friendly Southern League this year, led all players in the game with three hits, raising his AVG to .500 through 18 AB. Fellow Marlins prospect Cousins, who played his college ball at University of San Francisco, had one of the game's two homers.
The Giants' Pichardo allowed a run while throwing just 9 of 16 pitches for strikes. Hanson, perhaps the Braves top pitching prospect after his .175 BAA this year, did not allow a hit to any of the dozen batters he faced.

Scottsdale: 2B Drew Sutton: 3 for 5, 2 SO, SB

The Phillies' Donald was one of thee Solar Sox hitters with a multiple-hit line, raising his AVG to .412.
Throwing 18 of 22 pitches for strikes, Hinshaw struck out four of the seven batters he faced. It was his most effective of three AFL appearances.
HWB 10/13: a scheduled off-day
HWB 10/14: Waikiki lost to North Shore 14-5
Waikiki: CF James McOwen: 1 for 3, 2B, 2 BB, SO, CS

Waikiki: RHP Steven Edlefsen: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB--1 HR, 1 WP
Kieschnick had his second Hawaiian triple. No one had two hits for the Beach Boys, but the Mariners' McOwen did reach base three times. The A's Brown led the Honu's offense with his first Hawaiian homer and three walks. He has a .386 OBP after 48 AB.
The Yankees' Brackman, who threw just 45 of 84 pitches for strikes, seems to be struggling with his control as he returns from Tommy John surgery. His ERA rose to 6.14, and his W-L record dropped to 1-3 after four starts. The Giants' Edlefsen allowed five runs to score, including all thre inherited runners, while recording just four outs. He threw just 24 of 42 pitches for strikes and was ejected from the game in the middle of the 9th inning.
Mexican note:
Mexicali 10/14: C Todd Jennings: 0 fro 4, 2 SO, GiDP
Jennings' AVG dropped to .083 with the oh-fer.

Two years old
But he had to repeat daycare two years in a row. Clearly he’s too old for this level. He’s garbage.

…if he’s really two years old as you say! You know how they falsify birth certificates.

Yeah but it’s not like it was his fault – the Dodgers kept him in A ball for three years for no good reason. He’s a good, young hitter, who plays a pretty tough position – those guys aren’t that easy to find. Maybe he’ll never amount to anything, but for a rebuilding team like the Giants, dumping Denker seems pretty stupi…
Wait, who are talking about again?

FYI on International Signings
from BA (sub required):
San Francisco Giants
Six-figure signings: OF Rafael Rodriguez, Dominican Republic, 16; RHP Ariel Hernandez, Dominican Republic, 16
Top Bonus: Rodriguez, $2.55 million
Summary: The Giants set a record on July 13, giving Rodriguez the largest bonus ever for an amateur Latin American hitter, excluding Cuban defectors. Rodriguez, who is 6-foot-5, 198 pounds, has plus raw power from the right side that should grade out higher in the future as he fills out his frame. He runs well for a player his size, though he’ll be a corner outfielder as a pro and is still learning to get a feel for the position. He has good bat speed, but scouts say his feel for hitting is still a work in progress and more raw than Dominican first baseman Angel Villalona, who signed with the Giants for $2.1 million in 2006 as a 16-year-old, at the same age.
The Giants also agreed to terms for $625,000 with Dominican righthander Luis Mateo and announced the signing in a press release on July 2. But the Giants had the contract voided in August once they found bone chips in his elbow, according to Mateo’s agent, Greg Maroni of California Sports Management. The Giants have also confirmed that the contract was voided. Mateo was evaluated in September by Dr. Lewis Yocum, who saw no need for surgery in Mateo’s elbow or shoulder and that aggressive rehab would be the preferred course of action, according to Maroni. Mateo, a projectable righthander with good arm speed, is now a free agent and was working out for multiple teams in late September. The Giants also signed Dominican outfielder Jose De La Cruz in April for $100,000.
I hadn’t heard the Mateo news, but it sound as if it was last month, so it may have been already noted around these parts.
