Guys, Help...
I am really struggling to maintain my hatred for rectum face.
I mean, I know he does douchey things - I know he almost killed Conor Jackson w/ a helmet spear... but god damn that guy plays hard.
And watching him suck the wind right out of the crowd last night made me happy as hell. (Second only to watching Matt Stairs shoot one into orbit two batters later, THAT was a home run if I ever saw one... Lidge/Pujols anyone?)
Is it possible that we have prematurely judged Victorino? Maybe we've let a few instances cloud our judgment regarding a player who all in all seems to be the spark plug that a team like the Phillies needs to make it into the WS? The way he is playing I certainly wouldn't mind having him on our side.
I can see it now, 2008 NLCS offensive MVP's: Shane Victorino and Brett Myers.
Oh yeah, and isn't it weird watching a team that can actually score runs late? I'm pretty used to it being automatic game over if the other team scores more than 3 runs. Watching the 2008 Giants has really alterd my perspective when it comes to baseball.

Maybe it was being away from baseball...
As I hadn’t watched any games for a year and a half, listening to some here and there. But I don’t really recall the reason why Victorino was actually hated. I know he had a good series against us, but no specific actions.
I actually have come to respect him a bit, just for when he was thrown at he understood he was going to be thrown at, but was upset about it going towards his head and not his body.
And hey, he hit a homer to tie a playoff game against the Dodgers.

I'm with you on this
Put another way, at this very moment, who’d you rather have playing CF, Shane Victorino or Aaron Rowand? You think the Phils are bummed they didn’t re-sign Rowand? I think not.

I don't know about you guys
But I don’t like Victorino for that one extremely bush play last year.
He was picked off first base and caught in a pickle. After Omar made a throw in the pickle, Victorino ran onto the grass around the pitcher’s mound and collided with Omar. The umpire called interference on Omar and awarded Victorino second base.

I am however down with anything Victorino does in the next few days to keep the Dog’s out of the WS. After that, the “hate” is back on :-)
You know how there are some guys you hate, but you have to respect the way they play the game ? Victorino is not one of those.

If there’s an actual rule written to the effect that what he did was legal then you are judging him on your own interpretation of sportsmanship. Or somethin’.
He’s gone on record as saying he was aware of the ruling , now whether he’s knowing “on the fly” or not I have no idea. We can carry our personal grudge as far as we want to , but the guy’s being productive as hell right now – and that you have to respect.

This guy has been around forever. The guy you fucking hate when he plays for the other team, and love when he plays for your team.
He used to be called Pete Rose, then Barry Bonds.
I’m not saying RECTUMFACE is on the same level as those guys, but the same principle applies.

I’d like to point out a different phenomena I am experiencing.
I had been fairly pro-Tampa Bay up until now, but after watching the Phillies man-handle the Dodgers, there’s no way I am going to be rooting against the Phillies in the World Series.
How can I root against a team that has brought me such joy—-and what have the Rays actually done for me lately?

YES!
Yankees & Dodgers & fans of both = BAD!
I guess I just don’t live in a location populated by throngs of annoying Red Socks fans.
Since I was born in Boston, I picked the Socks as a backup team (for those years when the Giants suck).
However, it wouldn’t bother me if the Rays went to the Series (for variety sake). I’m rooting for the Phillies to go all the way. If the Dodgers go to the Series, I’ll be rooting for whoever is playing them (DUH), without any reservations.

The only reason you have any semblance of tolerance for this guy is because he’s helping beat the Bums, do not forget this! On any other given day, he will revert back to rectum face that we despise. Of course, we will have to ultimately tolerate him as it is inevitable that Sabean signs him because HE IS TEH GIANT KILLR!
