This post
This post is a question for everyone. What would agitate you more, Sabean doing nothing or Sabean doing something? What I mean is would you rather him stand pat on the team that we finished the season with or would you rather make a move ( whatever move that is )? My feeling is this, Sign Furcal if he agrees to an incentive laiden contract worth one year and less than 8 mm maybe even less. This would give Burriss a chance to get some "seasoning" in AAA, and when Furcal walks at the end of the year, if he comes back to form, we get 2 draft picks. Rumor mill says that Furcal will be looking for a one year deal to prove hes back so is it worth the flyer? This is pretty much the only move I might like to see, since I feel that Ishi could handle first full time and Pablito could handle third and give second to Denker please ( Frandson or Aurillia for utility ). So unless Sabes gets blown away for offers on Big-money and winn, leave the rest of the team alone.
Now I dont think this is a lame trade thread or anything, but if it is let me know I'll get rid of it. Another question, does it bother you when someone says "we" when refering to a team they cheer for?

I’d rather he stand pat, but if there’s a GOOD trade to make… I’d be okay with him making it.

I almost always say we when referring to my favorite team
I figure my money helps to pay their salaries so either they work for me or I am a part of the organization. Or both.
Also, that’s a pretty open question there. I’d rather he made a move if that move happened to be convincing CC Sabathia to play for the league minimum for the next ten years. I’d rather he stand pat if the move happened to be extending Zito’s contract.
I’d rather he made moves, if they were good ones. But I’d rather he stand pat, otherwise.
Catcher are base running. Hitters are offense.

If it had to be one, I’d rather he didn’t do anything. The team that finished the season is not the same team that started the season. I would have no problem letting the players already in the organization try to go through a whole season together.
Really though, he needs to make smart moves and try to refrain from making bad moves.
Also, I’ve never had a problem with people using “we” or “us” when talking about a team. Fans can be very emotionally invested in a team and feel that they are a part of it all.

Does anyone have any confidence that Idiot Boy can really accomplish this?
Why isn't Sabean held accountable for leading the Giants into many years of mediocrity???

those are two false choices
there is no choice between doing nothing and doing something. If the “something” is good, I’m for it. If not, then I’m against it. that really doesn’t help. so, to answer the question like a true lawyer: it depends.
Now, you’re suggesting that “doing something” is getting Rafael Furcal for one year. That’s something I would totally go for. He’s a legit leadoff man who plays a pretty good defense. There also would be no long term risk to the team due to injury and he could fit w/in our budget. I just don’t think that he’d come here because the offense here is so horrible, though he’d look good by comparison. And in the end, he won’t be able to pass up offers of more years.
The point, though, is that Sabean will do something. it’s guaranteed. We just don’t know whether it’ll be a big or little something. Signing Furcal to a one year deal would be good, a 6 year deal would be bad. Trading Cain for JJ Hardy would be bad. Trading Cain for David Wright would be good. Trades depend on who was traded and for whom.
I don’t really trust Sabean to make good big moves, but I usually can live with the little moves. I just hope he doesn’t do anything stupid.
as to a few of your other points.
Pablo can play 3rd base in 2009. In the long run, he’s a first baseman and backup catcher, but 2009 isn’t a part of the “long run” as far as I’m concerned and he’s only 22.
Ishikawa – he probably can’t hit lefties well enough to be a full-time first baseman. I’m all for giving him a chance to make adjustments and learn to hit lefties enough to be a full-timer, but this org doesn’t seem willing to give people those chances.
Denker – He profiles as a utility guy. I’m not terrible impressed with his defense and 2nd base is clogged with a lot of potential utility men like Frandsen and Velez, so he’ll have to show a bit more versatility to even make the 25 man roster. If he could play 3rd, he’d have a great chance at making the squad in 2009.

I had no idea. Sorry, I’m not sure how to fix second base then. Although maybe give Frandson a shot, maybe.

Semi-Platoon
A semi-platoon of Kevin Frandsen and Eugenio Velez might make sense for 2009.

Frandsen maybe???
You must not have been paying attention. Frandsen definitely!

Sorry to sound like an idiot but milb.com says he still plays for the Giants, so at risk of sounding stupid, is that website for real or what?

The writer works for the Padres (Special Assistant for Baseball Operations) so I’d say it’s for real.

WHAT THE FUCK? I am shaking with rage right now. Why the fuck would the Giants do this? All good feelings I had generated this year about the Front Office are gone in one second.

No clue, there had to be more than a few better options to expose. Anyways, I don’t need one, but I now have a good excuse to drink tonight.

Another in the increasingly long line of Sabean’s “no-name semi-prospects I traded for to get rid of a player I shouldn’t have signed in the first place, so there’s no reason for me to bother with them anymore.”?

no one sponsors Ray Durham’s Baseball-Reference page. They’re asking for $40, so it’s kinda pricey, but still.

How do we get two picks???
I would assume we also lose a pick by picking him up in the first place.

I dont believe we lose the pick because of his injuries this year so I dont think he will qualify for type a or b free agent. If he comes back strong like I think he is capable of then he becomes type a and we get the picks. Im not positive though so you may be right, that was just something I think would be good for the team to do, and thats if everything worked out good for him.

This doesn’t really matter but I’m pretty sure Furcal will be a type B free agent which means if we were to sign him we wouldn’t lose any pick, the dodgers will just get a supplumental 1st round pick.
