No. 5 pick in 2008 Draft

Who should the Giants pick?

Star-divide

I believe the Giants should take a position player that has the potential to be a middle the order power hitter.  I think the player should be either a corner infielder or an outfielder.  Can someone who knows about the Draft shed some light on players the Giants could take.

I agree, as long as it's a hitter, and as long as that hitter hits for power and OBP.

Well I don't think BS was planing to take a guy who can't walk or hit for power. Or is he?

I sure hope he doesn't plan on picking a guy who can't walk. That would be a terrible baseball decision.

Really, that's pretty much it's own punchline.

Re: No. 5 pick in 2008 Draft
I don't know.  If he gets one of those guys who race wheelchairs, it might be doable.  And imagine that guy's strike zone.  Especially if it's an umpire who calls the strike zone from the knees to the belt.

Re: No. 5 pick in 2008 Draft
absolutely correct.  with a pick this high, "need" is only a tiebreaker after all else, including signability, has been researched.

No!!! That's just what they expect us to do!

I understand football players make world class jocks, and are sure things to mash for years in MLB. We should draft one of them!

You mean there's an ex-football player in the MLB?! That is so cool!! People should definitely write more about him!

I was thinking more of a Frank Okam type, but to each his own I guess.

Did you guys know...?
We're going to pick Smoak! That's what the internets are saying.  Not a chance we don't!

Oh great, now you've jinxed us. Maybe it's the extreme cold you've been exposed to.

Re: Did you guys know...?
Maybe it will be different this year, but a couple of years ago, when we had our first #10 pick (the golden ticket that landed us Lincecum), BA speculated on who might get picked 10th or maybe it was the 10th best player, and it was Evan Longoria, 3B.  So I spent all winter and spring salivating over getting him but he just had to go and develop even faster than others, catapulting him up higher in the draft, away from our pick...

So don't get settled on Smoak being our pick, just hope that the Giants pick a position player who can be a middle of the lineup hitter for us, hopefully a college hitter so he shouldn't be as far away from making the majors.

Re: Did you guys know...?
Yeah it's actually ridiculously early to think about the draft, because the status of players changes so dramatically throughout the course of the spring season.  Mike Moustakas vaulted himself from fringe 1st round consideration to the #2 pick with his senior season and while an extreme example, that sort of upward/downward is typical once the college and high school seasons start.

Don't take me so seriously...
I'm more making fun that we've had three draft posts in the past few days with almost 6 months to go until it yet.

What!? It's never too early to talk about the draft. Sheesh, it's like I don't know you people at all! All the time we've spent together, warming ourselves by the virtual campfire, roasting virtual hotdogs and electronically speculating on the meaning of life...
