Who will win more games in 2008?

Assuming you take the projected starting lineups and pitching staffs of the A's and Giants based on their current rosters, which team do you believe will win more games?

Re: Who will win more games in 2008?
I think the AL West will be a lot less competitive than the NL West, so I might go with the Athletics.

The Giants will win 15 to 35 more games this coming season, easy.

I assume we are talking Clue here.

The A's just say Professor Plum in the Billiards Room with the Lead Pipe every time.

Come on, guys.  It's like you're not even trying.

Steve Kline: How okay is he, really? I would say he is pretty okay.

Re: Who will win more games in 2008?
It's because of Billy Beane's philosophy that most Clue matches are nothing but a crap shoot to begin with, and are mostly just dependent on luck. He believes that his chances are the same picking that every time as picking something different, anyway, so why bother trying?

Re: Who will win more games in 2008?
Not sure if this counts as being optimistic, but I'll say the Giants win 5 more games. Assuming the rosters are the same on opening day as today.

Re: Who will win more games in 2008?
It depends how well both teams' offensive prospects do.  If ours can do at least mediocrely, we probably have the upper hand because of our loaded pitching staff.  And unless they sign BLB, the only threatening bat in the A's lineup right now is Eric Chavez, and god knows what he'll tear this year (and he also might get traded)  If we can pull something off before the start of the season that brings us a decent bat, then I'd definitely say we look better.  The A's would probably like that, though, since they want the best draft pick they can get for next season to help add to the prospects they're heaping up in their firesale.

Re: Who will win more games in 2008?
I'm guessing the A's-- but I'll admit that this is based on a. thinking Blanton won't be traded, b. being really high on Chris Denorfia, and c. expecting them to sign Bonds.

Trying to predict anything about next year's A's roster is kind of a fool's errand, though. The firesale axe could still fall on Ellis, Street, Blanton, Duchscherer, Embree...

Re: Who will win more games in 2008?
True, I don't expect that the A's (and hope that the Giants) are done dealing yet. If Blanton, Street, etc. are all gone, I don't see how the A's win 75 games even though the AL West looks really mediocre right now.

Re: Who will win more games in 2008?
I think the more important question is:  Which team will win more games in the next five years?

Answer:  A's in a walk.  We're gonna suck for a loooooong time.  A's will only suck for a little bit.

Here's to Kemp, Loney, LaRoche, Hu, and Kershaw not panning out.

Re: Who will win more games in 2008?
As much as I'd like to say the 2008 Giants (especially when they project be so scrappy), if I had money on it I would probably say the A's will have ten games on the Giants when it's all said and done.

With the roster shakeups yet to come, I think we'll know more after we see who's reporting to camp. There's still a metric ton of FA position players left for the choosing; Sabes must be drooling over the aggregate of veteran savvy available.

Derin McMains had five fingers, but he only used three.

Re: Who will win more games in 2008?
I suspect the A's will win more games than the Giants this season.  If so, that will merely add to the legacy of Billy Beane compared to Brian Sabean.

I once thought Brian was nearly as good as Billy.  I no longer believe that to be true.

Re: Who will win more games in 2008?
It sorta makes me laugh when I think back a few years ago when Sabean won the Baseball Executive of the Year Award.

My A's fan-buddy and I used to always dispute who was the better GM.  That award that Sabean won was like my main argument...and now it's more of a joke.

Re: Who will win more games in 2008?
Funny when I was a kid I used to argue with one of my best friends(A's fan) , who was better Will Clark, or Mark Mcgwire. I was so damn sure to that it was the "thrill". And it even looked that way for a while. But then in the late 90's it was clear who was betetr, and that I got suckered on my trade , His Clark "Topps" Rokkie for mY McGrwire "Fleer" rokkie card.

Re: Who will win more games in 2008?
I expect that the Giants will win somewhere between 0-65 games.  Can't be to sure...they might win none.
