Poll: What has driven you the most crazy in '07?

So many things to chose from but I've tried to narrow it down.  I'm still not sure what I'll pick:

The "varsity" lineups:  This category includes the inability to score, bring in a runner from 3rd with less than 2 outs and preventing the youth movement from happening.

The Matt Cain loses: Every one has been heartbreaking, and every one has made me angry at my TV.

Bochy's play calling:  Does not include his insistence on using the veterans every single day, but does include rally-killing double-steals and generally uninspired and uncreative managing.

Ray Durham: 'Nuff said.

The inability to trade veterans:  Would have been nice to see Klesko, Kline or Winn/Roberts go so the Giants could get the youngsters more playing time, but nope.  Sabean did not do his job.  Winn and Roberts should have been tradeable imo and I can't believe no one wanted Kline.

Other:  Because there are so many other things to be crazy about...

I chooooooooooooossssseeeee....."varsity" lineups; because Sabes and Pete said the youth movement would start this year....wha happened?

I am going to go with a combination of Ray Durham and the insistence on the varsity lineups.  When Omar started off slow, he was put at the back of the lineup where he couldn't hurt anybody.  He eventually came out of it and got moved up.  When Ray started off slow, Bochy felt it was necessary to bat him either right before or right after Bonds to try to get him going. Wait a minute, I change my mind, I point the finger at Bochy.  Every player has slumps, it's the manager fault if he doesn't make changes.  BOOOO Bochy!!!

Re: Poll: What has driven you the most crazy in '0
What's driven me the most crazy is the failure to play good baseball. You largely covered this under the 'varsity' item: lousy situational hitting, bad baserunning (anyone know the record for most runners thrown out at home in a season, and whether we're close to breaking it?).

But another aspect of this is walking too damn many opponents. Lowry, Cain and Zito are all in the top 10 in the NL in walks. They've pitched a lot of innings, but Cain ranks 22nd in the league in IP and the others are lower than that. That's just way too many free passes.

what's really driven me crazy is that there's no good prospects to bring up to make the youth movement worth it anyway.  But I voted for varsity lineups.  bad baseball from "savvy" veterans?  really?
2002? I'm over it. But I'll never be over Rich Aurilia.

Ray Durham.

Bochy's moves (more so earlier in the season and with pitching)

I'd just once like to see this lineup. Please.

Davis, CF
Viz, SS
Ortmeier, 1b
Scheirholtz, RF
Molina, C
Winn, LF
Feliz, 3b
Frandsen, 2b

Switch Winn with Bonds and we've got ourselves a deal.

How could Winn possible be better to watch in Left than Barry? And how could Nate possible be a better cleanup hitter?

Woops, I reversed Molina and Nate.

I took off bonds because we're not sure he'll be here next year. the others in the lineup are pretty certain to atleast have options.

That lineup actually reminds me of the Padres'
With their pitching, it would probably be okay. With ours? Well, the ceiling is high, at least.

You know what drives me crazy? The way the line runs up the back of those stockings. I always liked those kind of high heels, too.

Re: Poll: What has driven you the most crazy in '0
I voted for the Varsity lineups.

The first half of the season, the thing that annoyed me the most, was  the inability to bring in a runner from 3rd with less than 2 outs & other incompetent things our lineup did.

Recently, the thing that's annoyed me the most has been the lack of young players playing, sending out the same old veterans for no point at all, and taking the enjoyment out of watching the team.

I voted for the Matt Cain losses. There's just something viscerally BAD about that. That implies votes for situational bullpen instability, and lack of run support.

Those losses that last an extra 3 hours where you know we're going to lose eventually but continue to watch anyway. There's been way too many this year.

Lots of good choices but for me it's 1)walks 2)double plays.

Re: Poll: What has driven you the most crazy in '0
it's got to be the putrid offense. If I had to pick the worst thing about this season I would pick all the games the bullpen blew late, particularly the walk off losses, but I actually believe that with Walker, Wilson and Hennessey the problem just may be fixed. I see no fix with the offense and that is why it is number one to me, and with no post-Bonds plan anywhere in sight it could get worse before it gets better.

Re: Poll: What has driven you the most crazy in '0
Ray Durham is a huge part of the varsity lineup sucking, but I'd rather that they were all good than just him improving.

If the varsity lineup didn't suck so much, Matt Cain would have a decent record.

If the varsity lineup didn't suck so much, Bochy wouldn't have to try to make things happen with stupid play calling.

If the varsity lineup didn't suck so much, we'd have been able to trade veterans.

If the varsity lineup didn't suck so much, we'd be living in Happy Land, in a gumdrop house on Lolly Pop Lane.

Re: Poll: What has driven you the most crazy in '0
thing that bothers me the most is fans who whine
constantly about the losing- no constructive ideas
on how to rebuild, just constant complaints...the Giants had a good run for what, 6-7 years? and some people act like they cant take even one more loss..

the future(say 2009) looks brighter to me, but the whining gets kind of old

Re: Constructive ideas
What's the point of having constructive ideas?? The only ideas that count are the ones Sabean is having right now. It's not like he's reading the board saying, "yeah, I'm going to try and do that as soon as the season is over!!"

Re: Constructive ideas
On the other hand, the Zito signing seemed a clear response to all the "why haven't they signed anybody" bleating that filled KNBR and the Sporting Green for a while.  So I'd say we just need to work out a strategy to get the front office to make knee-jerk responses to the McCoven instead of sports radio call-in crowd.

Re: Constructive ideas
do you want to read a bunch of posts "oh please feel sorry for me, my team is losing for the 3rd straight year..its just unbearable..how can i go on living?"

its getting kind of pathetic

i mean if you have a trade idea or some kind of insight on how they could/should improve the team great, enough of the self-pity posts already

by slojoe on Sep 7, 2007 9:24 AM PDT up reply actions

Re: Constructive ideas
I agree with that, posting trade ideas and other hot stove items is alot of fun. My point just is that we post alot of ideas, read rumors in the papers and then when something actually happens, it is totally out of left field. Look at Matt Morris to Pittsburgh. Nobody predicted that, and nobody predicted that the Giants would find a team to pick up his entire salary, although that move just got a GM fired today. And if we had known Morris was going to Pittsburgh, nobody would have predicted we're getting Rajai Davis for him. Just like you're complaining about the fans whining about the losing, I don't like dumb trade ideas and fans assuming they could have made a certain trade that the Giants didn't make. "If they had just listened to me and traded Steve Kline to the Marlins for Miguel Cabrera they would have won this year!!"

If you look anywhere else on this site, you'll see plenty of constructive ideas being tossed about. However, this diary is just about venting frustrations about a disappointing season. I don't see any problem with it.

That selfish attention whore, begging for all the media to follow him around in a circus while all he did was walk and hit HR's all day instead of getting RBI's and winning games. Its been driving me so crazy and is reason numero uno the Giants suck this year.

Someone needs to Photoshop Bush telling Sabean:

"You're doing a great job, Sabey"

or, Photoshop Bush handing Sabean a Medal of Freedom. Your pick.
