Open Gameday Thread, 9/23

Kevin Correia reestablishing himself as a viable starting candidate for 2008 = one of the more pleasant surprises of the season. Or, one of the only pleasant surprises of the season.

Pittsburgh 30-San Francisco 9, fourth quarter. Football is over for me today.

I missed Correia pitching well last night. The Oregon/Stanford game was a hell of a lot more fun than Giants baseball has been.

You had a good time down at Stanford eh?

I was crapping myself when I saw us behind at the half.

Re: Open Gameday Thread, 9/23
Oh yeah I was yelling my head off when Oregon shat the bed there. They played great run defense most of the game, but the pass defense was godawful. They gave Stanford's QB too much time to throw and their coverage on receivers was terrible. That second quarter...good lord. They took their stupid pills on offense and defense. Their special teams were really uneven, too.

Ugh and then there was the kickoff that took about seven tries to get right due to all the penalties called. But hey, they pulled their heads out of their asses and played well in the second half.

We also snuck in many of the tiny bottles of booze. There were libations for all. Great night.

Re: Open Gameday Thread, 9/23
I'm just now catching the game on tape delay (Comcast Sportsnet).  From what I've heard, it sounds like we just took them too lightly.  It's nice that we turned things around in the 2nd half, but against Cal or USC, we won't be able to get by with that kind of crap.

Good on you for sneaking in the booze as well.  College football just isn't the same without it!

I'm curious though, what did you think of the remodeled stadium?  I was impressed with it when I was there in the early summer.  It's no Autzen Stadium or anything, but it's not half bad really.

I adopted Omar and have nothing good to say about this team. Footy season has kicked off, so I don't watch the Giants much anymore.

Re: Open Gameday Thread, 9/23
The stadium is really cool. I like the archway things at the top of the stadium, and the press box/luxury suites are very impressive. I took some poor quality photos with my cell phone but at least you can see what I saw Saturday night.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y144/seasond_salt/pressbox.jpg

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y144/seasond_salt/flag.jpg

That was a happy accident. I wanted a shot of the Oregon flag and I got the sky, scoreboard, and the archways in there too. The Duck was way on the other side of the field so I couldn't get a good shot of him. I've been to only one game at Autzen (2001) and yeah that was pretty freakin amazing.

I'm visiting some people in San Jose next weekend and we might go to the San Jose State/Idaho game. I need to scope out my future football team and marching band. WAC football won't be the big huge deal that PAC-10 football is, but I'm looking forward to being a band nerd again. The Stanford band is just FUN, and I really missing that fun I had in high school marching band. Oregon will always be my favorite college team, but I can go to SJSU and be a Spartan and all that. It's not cheating, we're just in different conferences.

The friend who took me to the game Saturday also gets season tickets for baseball so I'll go to as many games as I can. I need to get ready for the draft early!

Re: Should SF re-sign Feliz?
How can we not?

He is our best power prospect.  Plus if you lose Barry's HR's then you HAVE to keep Feliz, Molina, Winn, and maybe Durham.  Ort should add 10-15, and maybe Lewis could eek out 10.  But counting on either is ridiculous.  Pedro will get you 20 HR, 80 RBI guaranteed and with the defense and dramatically lowered SO's, he should be a keeper.

I think the only way we can afford lose both Bonds and Feliz is if we win the A-Rod sweepstakes.

Lewis needs new baserunning strategery.

Milton Bradley is a complete moron. He just got in a hugh bizare argument with the ump, who eventually tossed him (after he got a basehit). So Bud Black comes out to restrain him and body slams him. Bradley twisted his knee and is carried off the field.

Fucking stupid.

Bonds stands alone.

Strikeouts are boring. Besides that, they're fascist. Not boring: Emmanuel Burriss. Not facist: THE RETURN OF SF Dugout

I'll be sad if Brian isn't closing games next year.

They'll come up with some excuse to pry him out of there.

"The 9th inning just wasn't as exciting as it used to be. At the end of the day, we decided no fan should feel so safe and secure in their team's lead and so the deal for Borowski makes sense from that stand point. We're selling an experience and this completes it."

Mine's better because I typed the link from memory.

I've just had sooooo much practice.

5 run inning
what is that? 3 or 4 times this year the Giants scored that many in an inning?

Was at the ballgame today
I sat in the arcade for the first time. It had great proximity to good beer.

After the top of the first, the three Reds outfielders were congretating in right field, very near my seat. I screamed, "ADAM DUNN, YOU'RE A THUG!" He glared at me. I feel like I did my part.

Re: Was at the ballgame today
I'm glad the Giants didn't throw at Dunn though. It was a good baseball play, and we might want to trade for him after the season. He also apologized to Alfonzo later. No hard feelings.
