Uh, Moises.......

http://www.slate.com/id/2100652/

In a recent interview with ESPN's Gary Miller, Chicago Cubs outfielder Moises Alou revealed that during baseball season he urinates on his hands to toughen them up. Alou, one of the few major leaguers who doesn't wear gloves while batting, is backed up by Yankees catcher Jorge Posada, who says, "You don't want to shake my hand during spring training."

Urea, a major component of urine, is a compound also used in many commercial moisturizing creams as a skin softener. It's an active ingredient, for example, in Carmol 10 and 20 and in Dermal Therapy Lotion. (The makers of these lotions are not distilling urine, by the way; their urea is manufactured in a lab.)

Schierholtz doesn't wear batting gloves, either.  Hopefully he won't adopt Alou's habit . . .then he'd REALLY be "Nasty Nate" or even "Sticky Schierholtz."

Re: Uh, Moises.......
It's just as good as mine, if not better, so I think either we're both sucking at this or doing ridiculously well.

We'll have to see if someone can come up with something more clever than us . . .

Yeah, I know  It was posted for the irony that after all that, the ridiculous routine these guys go through to.......urine actually softens the skin.

Quasi OT
The bit on labs making synthetic urea reminds me of a scene in The Yes Men. The guys pose as spokespeople from McDonald's and make a presentation to a group of college students called the "Re-burger." They present the idea of recycling human waste into a food product. It's hilarious to watch the class of students get more and more disgusted as the presentation goes on. They eventually boo the guys out of the room and throw things at them.

The Yes Men is an awesome movie and I cannot recommend it enough. How these guys can impersonate big wheels from various organizations and make these absurd satirical presentations with a straight face is beyond me. And that most of these groups that sit in on their presentations don't get that they've been had...

Re: Uh, Moises.......
I would think that players like Alou and Posada who makes millions of dollars a year can afford to go to a store and actually purchase a bottle of urea cream. The whole peeing on the hands thing is not only disgusting, but along with the urea, you are subjecting your hands to other chemicals that aren't so good. That's why your body is getting rid of it in the first place.
