Kosuke Fukudome

Does anybody know much about this guy?  I know that the Giants likely need an infielder more than an outfielder, but I think it is about time that the Giants make a run at a Japanese player, and this guy looks good.  Looking at the tiny youtube videos, he appears to bail-out a little while swinging (especially vs. lefties), but maybe it's just my ineptitude as a hitter coming back to taunt me.  He'll be a free agent this winter, no posting fee needed.  There is a nice rundown, stats, and videos here:

Re: I don't know much about the guy
Great, thanks to BawLa now my comment looks like I'm all about the fuk u pun.

But really, the "dome" has as much to do with it as anything.

"but I think it is about time that the Giants make a run at a Japanese player"

I'm sure the last time the Giants FO thought like this they ended up with Shinjo and we all saw how that worked out.

Now I know where THAT comes from...

Was that Magellan in left field?

That's a serious piece of mechanical advantage he's wearing on his left arm.

Re: Shinjo is awesome
Haha, next thing you know, you will hear some convoluted theory that Shinjo's killer belt sign gave off enough heat to help his torso/hip mobility allowing him to turn on that pitch.

Natto-man...I'm not able to find the video of him descending from the rafters on cables for a pre-game introduction....You know the one I'm looking for?  Do you know where it is out there in YouTube-land?

Great.  Maybe he can co-suck in the outfield with Winn and PTBNL.

Re: Kosuke Fukudome
I guess I'll have to be the resident buzzkill. It's pronounced "foo-koo-doh-may". We've had some discussions in the past on possible targets from the Japanese leagues in the past. Here are a couple of the diaries:

http://www.mccoveychronicles.com/story/2006/10/6/04444/1005

I hope the Giants at least make an effort to sign him. It'll at least demonstrate some willingness to look in different places for talent.

Unlike the Giants/old player jokes. I could read those forever, especially when Julio Franco is released and someone writes "Sign him up, Sabes!" That gets me every time!

Re: Kosuke Fukudome
Actually, it was unfortunate for me that BawLa got his comment in before mine, because I know hos it's pronounced and I actually do think it's a pretty cool name.

It has good poetics. Solid consanance. Superb assonance. Metrically smooth. There's an F in there.

It's a good name.

Seung-Yeop Lee
Anybody know if S-Y Lee is in the mix again next season? I though he was a good fit for SF last offseason, but he signed (i think a 1 year deal) back with his Japan club.

Here's his deal from last year:

I'd love Lee. I even have a Kyojin Lee T-shirt a friend got for me last summer. I'm ready for Lee on the SF Giants!

Looks as good a place as any
Since this seems to be a "Who should the Giants target thread" now, the Indians called up McC favorite Asdrubal Cabrera today to be their utility infielder. Good chance to see him in action/shows the Indians hold him in pretty high regard as this seems to show they want to make sure they get him on their playoff roster.

Re: Kosuke Fukudome
Well, I think it is important to note that Ichiro seems to be producing just fine in his thirties, so maybe this guy would be worth it.  Especially if he won't cost $50M to talk to like Dice-K.

Plus, aren't the Japanese among the nations with the best longevity?

With the amount of hitting prospects in our system, we should at least consider it.

If we can get out of the burden of Winn's contract then he would be a good fit here. Reading about him he sounds like Winn with some pop
