Brian Buscher

I see he hit his first MLB jack this week and getting a little time with the Twins.

How did we lose him again?  Was he a Rule 5?

Just saw his name in a boxscore and it took me back a ways.

Re: Brian Buscher
Good question I hardly remember this guy myself.  I would like to extend my congratulations to him though, for tying Duane Kuiper on the all time home run list

Tying Duane Kuiper on the all time home run list joke never gets old.

Re: Brian Buscher
Ive  been following him as well this year. He was indeed a rule 5 loss in the minor league section of the draft. His power really seems to have emerged this year with 15 on the year combined between AA, AAA and the majors and he's walking more than strikes out. Just another example of a pretty talented position player who the Giants failed to figure out. The first year in another organization and he clicks.

Re: Brian Buscher
Wait, he was a Rule 5er and he spent time in the minors?  I thought if a team picked you up in Rule 5, you had to stay on the selecting team's 25 man roster.  How'd that work for the Twins?

And in defense of the Giants, it's not like there's a cornucopia of Giants hitting prospects to look back on and wonder what might be.  They probably figured, like the rest of us, that the cupboard is pretty freakin' bare, so this guy could walk with zero repercussions.

Re: Brian Buscher
the minor league portion of the rule 5 draft has different rules.

Re: Brian Buscher
What?  There's another Rule 5 draft?  Now you're just yanking my chain!

Oh, just found what you're talking about: "Organizations may also draft players from AA or lower to play on their AAA affiliates for $12,000, and may draft players from A teams or lower to play for their AA affiliates for $4,000."

Thanks for the clarification.

"Who in their right mind would want any of our players?"

Re: Brian Buscher
15 jacks in AA, AAA with 1 in the majors a good hitter or even a power hitter this does not make.

Re: Brian Buscher
I would say though that any minor league Rule 5 draftee who makes the majors was probably a pretty good signing.

Re: Brian Buscher
I guess the Giants failed to realize that a Brian in the hand is worth two in the Buscher.

I think they can protect a certain # at each level.  Buscher had been well reputed first, then injured, then not fielding as well as he used to, and was developing slowly with Nate and EME's cohort of guys.  Still, they batted him 4th or 5th in San Jose.  After he left last winter, I looked at the 3Bs we had left, and the loss looked glaring.

Re: Brian Buscher
Last year in CT Buscher was the most consistent player they had.  He jumped up three levels this season.
