Morris trade Completed

The PTBNL from the Pirates is single A pitcher Steve MacFarland.

The Pirates completed the Matt Morris trade by sending minor-league reliever Steve MacFarland to the San Francisco Giants.

MacFarland, a 21-year-old right-hander who was the Pirates' ninth-round draft pick last year, went 3-2 with a 4.80 ERA in 39 appearances for Class A Hickory, including one start. He struck out 69 and walked 48 in 65 2/3 innings.

Don't know anything about him, strikeouts look good but the walks look bad.

Lot's of Walks
He'll fit right in!

Quoting BA

27. Steve Macfarland, rhp (National rank: 186)
School: Lamar. Class: Jr.
Hometown: Marlboro, N.Y.
B-T: R-R. Ht.: 6-2. Wt.: 215. Birthdate: 8/17/85.
Scouting Report: Macfarland opened his college career at Pace (N.Y.) in 2004, then transferred to Lamar when the Setters dropped to NCAA Division II. He spent most of his freshman and sophomore seasons as a reliever before making the transition to starting this spring. Macfarland won his first three decisions but has been inconsistent ever since. He pitched in the low 90s and touched 94 coming out of the bullpen in the Cape Cod League last summer, but has sat mostly in the high 80s in 2006. His fastball lacks life and his command wavers, so it's hittable when he leaves it over the plate. His slider can be a plus pitch at times, clocking in at 80-83 mph. He projects better as a reliever in pro ball, and he's going to have to improve his control in any case. A team that liked his arm strength on the Cape could pop him in the fifth round.

Just what we need, another A-ball pitcher!

According to The Baseball Cube he's got a 1.59 WHIP this season, up from 1.48 last year in low-A.

But, on the other hand...we're not paying any of Morris' salary!

Re: Morris trade Completed
Il n'est pas le cancrelat.

La blatte is the feminine form of the noun and it refers to a genus named Blatta. I'm not sure on the difference in contexts. If I had to guess I'd say la blatte refers to the actual cockroach creature, and le cancrelat might be a term used for the bugs as pests. I ran across a website called cockroach-pictures.com with a short page written in French, and the article refers to roaches as "les cancrelats."

Can you tell I'm bored?

Re: Morris trade Completed
That should be "il n'est pas un cancrelat." He is not A cockroach. He is neither THE cockroach, but using "le" instead of "un" changes the context of the noun by saying one cockroach instead of the definitive cockroach.

He's not great, but I like the K-rate. The really horrible control is a problem. He's pretty young at 21 and maybe just getting out of the Pirates org will help. :)

In any case, you can't really complain. It's a PTBNL. They almost never turn out to be top players.
