Messenger DL'd

Broken left hand injured before today's game.

From Rotoworld:

Giants placed RHP Randy Messenger on the 15-day disabled list with a broken left hand.
Messenger was hurt when he was hit by a ball during batting practice before Wednesday's game. The Giants thought it was just a bruise, but X-rays revealed the break. Since it's not his pitching hand, he might be ready to return on Sept. 1. Pat Misch is expected to be recalled to replace him.

Tough Break....

(sorry couldn't resist)

Re: Messenger DL'd
of course, it was Barry Bonds, the worst teammate in the history of professional sports, and this is just more evidence of it.

Even if he didn't actually do it, he surely inspired the culprit by his lack of team play.

Congrats, Barry. You're the best there ever was in this game.

Re: Messenger DL'd
A real team leader would have jumped in the way and knocked the ball down. Bonds just doesn't have the range he used to have and it is hurting the team.

Re: Messenger DL'd
I don't think it will be Misch that will be recalled.  Misch was optioned down to Fresno on August 10th and therefore (if my understanding that an optioned player can not be recalled for 10 days is correct) is not available to be recalled until the 20th.

Re: Messenger DL'd
I believe that a player can be called up before the 10 days are up if he is replacing a player going on the DL.

Bold Prediction: Klesko will finish the 2007 season with at least 20 HRs. (OPS+ is 129 as of 7/1/07)

Start with the tibias, then work your way up to the femurs, the ribs and the humeruses, and top it all off with some mandibles and a cranium or two.

And hurry up, before they break up under their own aged volition.

Re: Messenger DL'd
If Misch is the one to replace Messenger is it likely the Misch will start tomorrow giving Lincecum and the rest of the rotation another day off?  Misch did not pitch in Fresno (including today) amd therefore last pitched in his August 9th start for the big club.  Starting Misch tomorrow would be starting him on six days of rest.

Re: Messenger DL'd
Knowing this org. it will probably be Munter that gets the call, especially if Misch is starting one game of a doubleheader for Fresno tomorrow.

Re: Messenger DL'd
It is going to be either Misch, Munter, or Blackley and Fresno does have both Misch and Blackley currently scheduled to start in tomorrow's double hitter.  Like it or not there is a good chance that it will be Munter.

Re: Messenger DL'd
Pat Misch was scheduled to pitch tonight in Fresno but was replaced by Kinney so I don't know if that means Misch has been called up to SF. Munter was at the game in Fresno tonight.

Have you seen Sanchez?
How are they planning to use him in Fresno?

by wilriv21 on Aug 15, 2007 11:35 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Re: Have you seen Sanchez?
The Giants are in the process of converting him to a ball dude, believing that with his low - 3/4 arm slot, he should have little problem rocketing foul balls into the cove. The Giants have rightly determined that's the only way kayakers will have a chance at a splash hit after Bonds departure.

Re: Messenger DL'd
Considering it's a reliever going on the DL and the team's serious about Misch starting, I'd expect Sanchez to be brought back up.

Re: Messenger DL'd
Shouldn't there be a stop gap call up for the weekend? Misch was sent down on the 10th and Sanchez on the 11th. Doesn't that mean Misch can't come back until Monday and Sanchez until Tuesday?

Re: Messenger DL'd
could go with a 7 or 8 starter rotation.  Spring 08 is looking interesting too.
Zito, Cain, Lowry, Lincecum, Correia, Misch, Ortiz, Sanchez
Correia has not thrived in relief.  Yet he has stuff.  Gotta showcase and preview him as starter.
