ya, this is a giants blog...and he was a pure yankee till the day he died, but its important to note the passing of one of the great baseball voices.

Re: rip scooter
I don't want to be tasteless, but I can't join in the honoring of one of the worst announcers and least deserving inductees to the HOF in the sesquicentenary of our beloved sport.

Re: rip scooter
the same condolences for any deceased, but i must agree with the mayor.
this is a split signature of solidarity for Palestine and the current Giants "team".

Re: rip scooter
you won't just say "RIP" for someone because they were (IYO) a bad announcer and an undeserving HoFer?

FWIW
RIP, Mr. Rizzuto.  I don't believe I need to honor your career as a baseball player, because I see no reason as to why you are in the Hall of Fame.  I also hate how ESPN is making such a big deal out of this, but whatever.

But, I will honor you as a human being that served our country in a time of war and who was an important person to the Yankee community.

RIP to Phil Rizzuto the person.

Belated , stumbling elaboration as to why
Because for all my life he's been known as the voice of the Yankees , and to millions of fans both Yankee and not - how many people have that distinction for any franchise or organization?

And , yeah , the "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" cameo was pretty cool then...and now.

I'm glad someone beat me to the MeatLoaf reference.

RIP, Phil.  It's not your fault someone else voted you into the Hall of Fame.  You played the game and respected it well, and that is worth remembering and memorializing.

Re: Belated , stumbling elaboration as to why
Strangely enough, a couple days ago I heard "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" on the radio and when the Rizzuto clip came on during the bridge I thought, wonder what Phil Rizzuto is doing now?

RIP Scooter. Despite my strong dislike of the Yankees, you were one of their most distinctive faces, and it was clear you loved the team more than anything, so...much respect.

Also, your hilarious ads for The Money Store will be missed.

Re: rip scooter
Classic Rizzuto line:

"And the pitch----the ball is hit way back, way back....and the second baseman catches it for out number 3..."

And there he goes, off to the best seats in the house, in perpetuity.

Rest in peace, Scooter.
