Neifi Perez: Speed Freak

And I'm not talking stolen bases.

July 6 (Bloomberg) -- Detroit Tigers infielder Neifi Perez was suspended for 25 games for using amphetamines, the first player penalized by Major League Baseball for taking the stimulant.

Perez will start the ban immediately, baseball said in a statement. The shortstop was batting .172 in 33 games for the Tigers.

Baseball suspends a player for taking amphetamines the second time he tests positive. An initial positive test results in counseling without disclosing the player's identity.
