Re: Tim's Nickname
I voted for "The Enchanter", but I love the idea of "TIMMEH! the Enchanter" t-shirts.

Re: Tim's Nickname
My basic objection is that the Giants players themselves already call him "Franchise."  Plus, the idea of a rain-fed white kid who looks like he should be tossing your morning paper having the same nickname as Steve Francis just amuses the beejeebus out of me.

That said, I voted for the Enchanter because I'm a huge dork.

Steve Francis will be out of the NBA in a few short years and nobody will be remembering him much after that so it is Tim's nickname to keep.

Yeah,
Point taken, but still DFA'd "Franchise" and "Seabiscuit" for proprietary reasons, i.e., "McCoven-derived" vs. "tradeable-team-player-derived".

That, and did not want the "taint" of Stevie Franchise on our savior.

Re: Tim's Nickname
Lincy? That sounds like the incestuous love child of two characters from "Peanuts".  You and your buddies need to go back to the drawing board and come up with something more clever if it's going stick around here.

In this place, nicknames like Magellan, Snatchwig, VSOP, Dreamy and Big Daddy are preferred to names like "Bondsy" or "Frandsey".

LINCY
Obviously you have some issues to deal with if thats the first thing that comes to mind after hearing Lincy.  Whats good about it is that its simple and not some overthought, obviously trying to hard to be cool nickname like the Enchanter.  And Timmeh Timmeh is obviously a referenece to southpark about the retarded character Timmy. Lincy doesn't throw like a person who is phyiscally challenged.  And Frandsen doesn't get a nickname becuase he doesn't deserve one.  And if we don't call him "lincy" we also refer to him as "Snaggletooth"(techinally it is a reverse snaggletooth but you get the point, the guy needs braces)

As the originator of that nickname let me assure you that I wasn't trying to be cool at all when I first referred to him as Tim the Enchanter. It just happens to be that I am naturally witty and have great taste in comedy.

Re: LINCY
Sorry I'm not a fan of the Monty Python.  If by "tongue in cheek sense of humor" you mean nerdy baseball stathead who never played baseball just thinks they know everything about it then yeah you're right.  However there is a lot of information I get here, depsite the fact that people like to make someone like me feel stupid.

Not only will we make you feel stupid, but here's to making you feel unwelcome as well!

Your nickname for him blows, and a much better alternative has already been approved of.  Either use that, or accept the mocking that will surely come your way if you choose to go with something else.

Re: LINCY
Last I checked...I have as much of a right to chime in as you do.

As for the soccer match, I'm going to see Chelsea v. Club America at Stanford on the 14th.  If you'd like to go, that'd be swell.  I'll save you a seat even.

As for the dieting class, don't need anything like that.  I just bought myself a kick-ass mountain bike and I plan on spending more than a little time on it this summer in the sweltering heat.  Thanks for your heart-felt concern though.

the fact that you are trying to be "funny and whitty" by finding a character from a movie to name him from is "trying" to be "cool". Yes Monty Python's great, the killer bunnies are hilarious and the fact that their riding around on horses when their really not is as well.  I like comidies too.  In fact pretty much my favorite is  The Big Lebowski, why dont I name Lincecum JESUS.  Because you know what, "nobody fucks with the JESUS" and certainly not Lincy when his dealing.

Re: Tim's Nickname
I went to youtube last night and watched the Tim the Enchanter scene from the Holy Grail. The fact that Tim the Enchanter (John Cleese) just randomly tosses fireballs everywhere is reason enough for the nickname to work for me. How else would a 5'9 pitcher hurl 97 mph fireballs if not for a bit of Enchanting?

I hope it sticks.

Re: did somebody say fireballs?
I noticed your dialogue was spot-on as I was watching the youtube clip. Interestingly, at one point Tim the Enchanter summons up a fireball with the same motion as earlier fireballs, but this fireball had a slower speed. Change up fireball? The similarities are eerie.

Re: That clip is friggin' funny
The thing about Monty Python is that it usually isn't really funny the first time you watch it. Upon subsequent viewings it becomes more and more funny. It's definitely an acquired taste. But anyone that says it isn't funny clearly doesn't appreciate real humor.

Re: That clip is friggin' funny
Just because you don't think it's funny, it doesn't mean that certain skits don't make you laugh. I don't care for Monty Python myself, but occasionally I find something I like. If I watch a 30 minute show I might find 5 minutes funny and the other 25 minutes boring. Most of British humor I don't find funny. Benny Hill was the worst. The only English guy I find funny is Mr. Bean, (Rowan Atkinson) and that is only because he is so ugly that you burst into laughter just looking at him.

Oh, is it required that I read 1/1000ths of your posts before replying?  I thought I could reply to your post res ipsa, i.e., without accounting for the totality of your site posts.  My post was made in response to your judgment on subject matter importance.

Respectfully, and in the spirit of McC, if you dislike a certain diary, you DO have the option to pass upon it, rather that value-judge.  My preference would be that you do participate, but appreciate that we all come to this site to enjoy our fan-dom of the Giants with sarcasm, but without barb-ing each other.  (Isn't this season pain enough?)

P.S. - Yes, I concede the subject matter overlap.  But I think we can deal with it.  It's not like this is a duplicate diary about the features of Andy Pettite's wife.

Re: Yes, do that.
Why I'm a Giants fan? hmmmm. uhm. I'm not really sure. I never really thought about it.  Kind of like why wouldn't I be?  I hate questions like that. Its like when you have to interview for a job and some jerk in HR (redundant) asks you why you want the job, and why you would be good at it.  I always answered "For the money, you idiot, you think I would work in this hole for free?...and I would  be really good at it because I told you I was the best and its that simple...so what about benefits and vacation and I need a couple of days off with pay before I start, and I'm assuming we're done, because you're just a useless as seatbelts on a barstool personnel jagoff and I've got more important things to do like watch my front lawn grow, so tell my new secretary I'll see her a week from Monday."

I guess thats as good as I can get on something like that.

Actually I think I wrote about something like this last year.
