Quickly....

The Giants are going to limit access to McCovey Cove for the All-Star Game. No motorized boats and no watercraft longer than 20 feet at all. I can understand the reasoning behind it, but you'd have to think there are more than a couple of folks who just had their plans go up in bureaucratic smoke.

My favorite part of the article, which described press reaction to two media boats that have been arranged for interested reporters:

"Most of the media appreciate this," Daum said. "They didn't know how to charter their own boats."
I knew a guy who majored in Boat Chartering at M.I.T., so I understand where they're coming from. You can't leave that kind of fact-finding and research in the hands of people who do fact-finding and research for a living.

But what about Skip?
The man's name is Bayless.  Clearly, he'd be completely out of his element.

If only...
If only there was some sort of service by which you could input the concept of "Boat Charter" into a mechanical contrivance of some sort, and the automaton in question would return information on how to go about chartering a boat.  Perhaps with the secret of steam power, we will all live long enough to see such a device!

I believe Mr. Babbage's Difference Engine might hold the key.

Billy Hayes: Nine more big-league plate appearances than you.

Re: If only...
By jove, I think you've got it! Splendid work, man! Top notch! The height of modernity, I say!
For just pennies a day, you too can make a difference in the life of a Giants player...like Kevin Correia.

Re: Quickly....
You scared me there for a moment. I read too hurriedly and thought you said the Giants were going to restrict access to McCovey Chronicles. Whew; close one.

Re: Quickly....
That's actually exactly how I read it too.  I was thinking, damn, foiled again!
Adopted Giant: Mark Sweeney. Yes, he's still on the team.

Re: Quickly....
How much would it suck to get assigned to cover the ASG, travel to SF, then spend the entire game outside the ballpark on a boat?

I can imagine a boatload of reporters all saying, "There's gotta be a story here somewhere."

Bold Prediction: Klesko will finish the 2007 season with at least 20 HRs. (OPS+ is 129 as of 7/1/07)

Wait...
...sportswriters do fact-finding and research?  When did this happen?

(Present company excluded, of course)
