Bullpen shuffling

According to the Chron, Ortiz and Sanchez are on rehab assignments and appear to be looking good.  Not to mention Vinnie Chulk is likely to come off of bereavement leave soon.  So... who goes when they come back?  Atchison?  Misch?  Kline?  Taschner?

Hmm, the "allow multiple answers" thing doesn't seem to work right.  Oh well.

Re: Bullpen shuffling
Chulk is already back from bereavement leave, and Atchison was sent down. I don't know who would go down if Ortiz and/or Sanchez were to come back up though. If Sanchez comes back up, Misch will probably go back down. Maybe they'll have Ortiz replace Misch and leave Sanchez in Fresno to get some innings in as a starter. Perhaps.

Fantastic Analogy.  Did youmake that up or hear it somewhere?
If Brad Hennesy had Steve Kline's attitude you'd get Rob Nen... without the triple digit heat.

Re: Bullpen shuffling
Don't forget trades. These could be the last few days of Jonathan Sanchez in the Giants organization.

Re: Bullpen shuffling
I don't see it. The Giants have repeatedly said that they're not trading young pitching and unless a Mark Texeira is coming here, I don't think it's going to happen. Throw in the fact that he's already had a couple of injuries this year and I would think that teams might be scared off. A name left off of the bullpen shuffling is Brian Wilson, who is once again pitching well down at Fresno and should be up here soon after the deadline. I see Kline being traded and Taschner being sent down with Wilson and Ortiz taking their places. And then I see Sanchez taking Morris' spot in the rotation. Then again, Sabean and Magowan could be full of shit once again, and your fears of Sanchez being traded may be realized.

Re: Bullpen shuffling
I don't know about Wilson. The K's are there, but he still walks way too many batters (21BB in 24IP). *insert obligatory joke about how he's perfect for the Giants*

Re: Bullpen shuffling
Should be Misch and Kline, but if the team is dead-set on keeping Kline up then I think Ortiz should start at AAA and have to pitch his way back on to the team - he hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt any more than the other relievers currently on the ML squad.

Sabean is lighting up the switchboards
Sabean, hopefully, is dialing for talent. Would expect SF to dangle Kline to playoff contenders looking for a vet LHP. Sanchez would then take Kline's spot in pen. SF could then dangle a SP (Morris or Lowry) for some more talent.

SF then could decide if wanted Ortiz, Sanchez or Misch at the 5th starter. I would prefer Ortiz finish the season as either a setup man or closer. If he is able to do the job he could be a low risk/high reward for 2008 season.

Re: Sabean is lighting up the switchboards
I've never been high on the idea of Ortiz as a closer. He doesn't have "classic closer stuff," and his WHIP seems a bit high. I'd rather groom Messenger for the job.

you might want to rethink that about tonight's debacle.

It looked like Ramirez hit a good pitch, but it was pretty much bad luck all around tonight.

Re: Bullpen shuffling
Atchison was already sent down when Chulk came of the bereavement list.  Misch will go down when Sanchez is activated from the DL and then come back up when Kline is traded.  Ortiz will not come of the DL until Morris is traded.

Re: This guy
funny, but I actually think we can get something for him if he doesn't have another one of those 5 run debacles before the deadline. He's experienced, a good guy in the clubhouse, a lefty, and has a good contract. Maybe even TWO bags of balls!!
